Travelling with his brother to California while still a lad, Washington Bryan Crumpton returned to Alabama to enlist in the Civil War eventually rising to sergeant and, while serving in Company H, 37th Mississippi Infantry, was wounded at Vicksburg and Atlanta with a post-war career as a Baptist minister. A member of the American Medical Association and the California State Medical Society, Dr. Hezekiah Crumpton was elected to four terms to the California State Legislature as well as serving in the Sausalito, CA municipal government.
