Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Surrealist artist Max Ernst defined collage as the "alchemy of the visual image." Students of his work have often dismissed this comment as simply a metaphor for the transformative power of using found images in a new context. Taking a wholly different perspective on Ernst and alchemy, however, M. E. Warlick persuasively demonstrates that the artist had a profound and abiding interest in alchemical philosophy and often used alchemical symbolism in works created throughout his career.A revival of interest in alchemy swept the artistic, psychoanalytic, historical, and scientific circles of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and Warlick sets Ernst's work squarely within this movement. Looking at both his art (many of the works she discusses are reproduced in the book) and his writings, she reveals how thoroughly alchemical philosophy and symbolism pervade his early Dadaist experiments, his foundational work in surrealism, and his many collages and paintings of women and landscapes, whose images exemplify the alchemical fusing of opposites. This pioneering research adds an essential key to understanding the multilayered complexity of Ernst's works, as it affirms his standing as one of Germany's most significant artists of the twentieth century.

About the book >.>.> In The Alchemy Stones: Use the Wisdom of the Ancient Alchemists to Transform Your Life, M E Warlick delves into the ancient practice of alchemy, an enduring path of spiritual knowledge that has fascinated humanity for centuries. Often simplistically known as the art of turning lead into gold, alchemy encompasses a vast and intricate philosophy rooted in ancient traditions, including those from Egypt and classical Greece. This book aims to demystify alchemy by exploring its rich history, imagery, and impact on visual arts, particularly during the surrealist movement of the early twentieth century.Warlick shares her personal journey and insights, revealing how alchemical symbols have shaped her understanding of the world and influenced her daily life. This book invites readers to participate in the process of deciphering alchemical mysteries, offering tools and techniques to guide personal decision-making and foster self-awareness. As readers engage with alchemical concepts, they may find new perspectives and connections that enrich their everyday experiences.Through this exploration, Warlick highlights alchemy's profound potential for personal transformation, encouraging readers to see it not just as an ancient pursuit, but as a relevant and dynamic philosophy. Whether approached as a means to answer personal questions or as a gateway into a more extensive study of alchemical philosophy, the book promises to guide readers on a transformative journey informed by centuries of wisdom and insight.
