Softcover. Condición: AS NEW COPY. WEST AUSTRALIANA ABORIGINAL - Biography -Alice Bilari Smith lived in the Pilbara, on stations and in the bush, on government reserves and in towns. Narrowly avoiding removal from her family by 'the Welfare', life on the stations taught her to cook and launder, sew and clean, shoe horses, chop wood and milk cows. Her working life on stations continued as a young married woman and she added mustering, dingo scalping, shearers' assistant and sheepyard building to her skills. Alice Bilari Smith also grew up in the ways of the country, hunting, cooking and building in the traditional manner. By the time she had five children of her own she was playing an active role in caring for other Aboriginal children and she initiated the establishment of a Homemakers Centre in Roebourne.235 pages : illustrations, maps, portraits, facsimiles ; 20 cm #0821/110325/310726Smith, Alice, 1923-2012.ÂÂ|ÂÂWomen, Aboriginal Australian -- Biography.ÂÂ|ÂÂAboriginal Australians -- Western Australia -- Pilbara -- Biography.ÂÂ|ÂÂAboriginal Australians -- Western Australia -- Pilbara -- Social life and customs.ÂÂ|ÂÂAboriginal Australians -- Western Australia -- Pilbara -- History.ÂÂ|ÂÂOccupations - Pastoral industry workers.ÂÂ|ÂÂSocial organisation - Kinship - Systems.ÂÂ|ÂÂLaw enforcement - Police conduct and attitudes.ÂÂ|ÂÂReligion - Rites - Ceremonial objects.ÂÂ|ÂÂCeremonies.ÂÂ|ÂÂReproduction - Childbirth.ÂÂ|ÂÂChild welfare - Child / parent separation.ÂÂ|ÂÂGender relations - Marriage.ÂÂ|ÂÂHistory - Biographies - Indigenous - Autobiographies.ÂÂ|ÂÂFood - Sociocultural aspects - Avoidance.ÂÂ|ÂÂBanjima people (A53) (WA SF50-11)ÂÂ|ÂÂHealth - Treatments - Traditional - Clever people.ÂÂ|ÂÂPolitics and Government - Civil rights and citizenship.ÂÂ|ÂÂMaterial culture - Bird feather objects and decorations.ÂÂ|ÂÂRace relations - Racism - Stereotyping.ÂÂ|ÂÂChildren - Care and nurturing.ÂÂ|ÂÂStories and motifs - Eagles / hawks / crows.ÂÂ|ÂÂGender relations - Gender roles.ÂÂ|ÂÂDeath - Mortuary customs.ÂÂ|ÂÂPilbara (W.A.) -- Biography.ÂÂ|ÂÂRocklea Station (WA West Pilbara SF 50-03)ÂÂ|ÂÂYirramagadu / Roebourne (WA West Pilbara SF50-03)ÂÂ|ÂÂPilbara area (WA SF50, SF51, SG50)ÂÂ|ÂÂWyloo (WA West Pilbara SF50-10)ÂÂ|ÂÂAustralian Elizabeth's Bookshops have been one of Australia's premier independent book dealers since 1973.
