Paperback. Condición: New. Women's lives in Wales are changing dramatically. They are becoming increasingly important to the world of paid work, while retaining their roles and responsibilities in the home. The pattern of family life has shifted, to the much vaunted growth of single parents, and the increase of elderly women liv…ing alone. Many women are increasingly active in public life, but meet barriers to their success, whether the arena be returning to study as mature students, the church, business, the arts or literature: they are expected to fit into a male world. Women's lives are very diverse, and their changing identity as they manage the balance between private and public lives has been as yet realtively uncharted. This text brings together a collection of interdisciplinary research papers on the changing identity of women in Wales. Research findings are complemented by cameo "voices" - personal accounts by a variety of individual women living and working in Wales. The volume is illustrated with photographs especially commissioned from the photographer Mary Giles.

Soft-cover. Our Sister's Land (Aaron et al 1994) is an inspiring edited collection of seminal writings about Wales and Welsh life. The collection argued for a focus on Welsh women because of their increasing importance to the world of paid work; while retaining their roles and responsibilities in the home. The book demonstrated…the ways in which women's lives are very diverse, and at the time of its publication it addressed an important lacuna; for the changing identity of Welsh women as they managed the balance between private and public lives had been relatively uncharted. For this reason the text was ground-breaking in bringing together a collection of interdisciplinary research papers on the changing identity of women in Wales. This is an engaging and well constructed collection that is essential reading for those interested in the everyday lives of women in Wales; and wider issues around gender, work and nationhood. A very good, clean, tight copy. Minimal shelf-wear. 320 pp.

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: New. Exhibition catalogue for Body Vessel Clay at Two Temple Place in 2022. With foreword by Dame Magdalene Odundo and texts by Dr Jareh Das, Professor Ozioma Onuzulike and Moira Vincentelli. This exhibition showcased the ceramic medium through artworks by three generations of Black women artists working i…n clay. Body Vessel Clay spanned 70 years of ceramics, celebrating the medium in new and surprising ways. Beginning with the seminal Nigerian potter, Ladi Kwali, and examining her interaction with 1950s British Studio Pottery, this important exhibition brought together a rich history with experimental new works by Black women working with clay today. Through Kwali and her female contemporaries, this new perspective on one of the world's oldest artforms reinterpreted the line of Kwali's influence and its resonance on a younger generation of international contemporary women artists working with clay in radical new ways. Artists celebrated in the exhibition included Magdalene Odundo DBE, who worked with Kwali, through Bisila Noha, looking both backwards and forwards, and into a striking contemporary display from Phoebe Collings-James, Shawanda Corbett, Chinasa Vivian Ezhuga, Jade Montserrat and Julia Phillips. The exhibition was curated by independent curator, researcher and writer Dr Jareh Das.
