Naar aanleiding hiervan organiseert het Museum voor Schone Kunsten van Gent, zijn geboortestad, een tentoonstelling met de titel De wereld van George Minne en Maurice Maeterlinck. George Minne en Maurice Maeterlinck waren symmetrische geesten die in hun tijd in de internationale artistieke wereld als vernieuwers werden beschouwd. De catalogus bij deze tentoonstelling belicht het oeuvre van beide kunstenaars die in hun jonge jaren vele raakpunten hadden en die, elk op zijn gebied, een belangrijke invloed hadden op het Europese symbolisme. Er wordt een beeld geschetst van het Gentse artistieke milieu van het einde van de negentiende eeuw, waarin de twee Belgische kunstenaars debuteerden en waar ze figuren ontmoetten als de dichters Gregoire le Roy, Georges Rodenbach en Charles Van de Woestijne. Geillustreerd met talrijke afbeeldingen, richt het boek zijn aandacht op de vele aspecten van leven en werk van beide kunstenaars. Een van de belangrijkste themas is de relatie van Maeterlinck met de plastische kunsten van zijn tijd. Zijn denken heeft immers niet alleen de wereld van het theater en de muziek, maar ook die van de plastische kunsten beinvloed. De belangrijke plaats van Maeterlinck in de kunstgeschiedenis, wordt geillustreerd met werken van kunstenaars die hij inspireerde zoals Odilon Redon of die door zijn ideeen, zijn gedichten of toneelstukken werden beinvloed zoals Fernand Khnopff, Leon Spilliaert of Maurice Denis. Ook aan de artistieke evolutie van George Minne in deze context wordt uitgebreid aandacht besteed. In dezelfde periode sculpteerde hij zijn elegante beelden die hem een belangrijke plaats zouden geven in de wereld van de Europese art nouveau. In de tentoonstelling en het boek wordt tevens stil gestaan bij de invloed die hij heeft uitgeoefend op kunstenaars als Gustav Klimt en Oskar Kokoschka.
