From the blurb Art is love wrote David Milne, but not love of man or child, or love of woman, nor love of nature or love of country or of mankind. It is just love, love without an object, a spilling of the oil of love. Art is for the Marys, not for the Marthas. Born in Ontario in 1882, David Milne achieved early success as a painter in New York City. His work as a war artist in England and France in 1919 also attracted the attention of critics in London, where he found himself compared to Vincent van Gogh. Despite the recognition he had earned abroad, success at home in Canada eluded Milne, and he responded to his countrymen's indifference in a variety of ways. Long known as a painter's painter, David Milne has only begun to receive the public recognition he deserves. Over 140 full-page illustrations the majority in colour document the full scope of Milne's painting career. This large book, 223 pages, is in fine condition in a fine dust jacket that is now in a protective mylar wrap. This large volume may require additional postage.
