The goal of MRCS 2006 was to provide an erudite but friendly f…orum where academic and industrial researchers could interact, discuss emerging multimedia techniques and assess the signi cance of content representation and security techniques within their problem domains. We received more than 190 submissions from 30 countries. All papers were subjected to thorough peer review. The nal decisions were based on the cri- cisms and recommendations of the reviewers and the relevance of papers to the goals of the conference. Only 52% of the papers submitted were accepted for inclusion in the program. In addition to the contributed papers, four distinguished researchers agreed to deliver keynote speeches, namely: - Ed Delp on multimedia security - Pierre Moulin on data hiding - John Smith on multimedia content-based indexing and search - Mar o A. T. Figueiredo on semi-supervised learning.

Dance gures, which are performed synchronously with the musical rhythm, can be analyzed through the audio spectra us…ing spectral and chromatic musical features. In the proposed multimodal dance performance analysis system, dance gures are manually labeled over the video stream and modeled by employing HMMs. The music segments, which correspond to beat and meter boundaries, are used to train hidden Markov model (HMM) structures to learn meter related temporal audio patterns which are correlated with the dance gures. Bi-gram based co-occurences of temporal audio patterns and dance gures are calculated. and bi-gram based co-occurrence performances for two di erent audio feature streams are evaluated. In our evaluations, mel-scale cepstral coe cients (MFCC) with their rst and second derivatives and chroma features are used as our candidate audio feature set. The proposed framework in this thesis, can be used towards analysis and synthesis of audio-driven human body animation.
