Several specimens of a new dorid nudibranch have been found in Yaring River, Pattani Province in southern Thailand. The species clearly belongs to the genus Gymnodoris, and is described and named G. pattani. It can be distinguished from all other species described in the genus by its translucently greenish colour, lack of notable colour markings, smooth skin, low number of about 3 lamellae on the rhinophores, a circlet of about 20 simple gill leaflets, its broad foot, and its brackish water habitat. New taxon: Gymnodoris pattani n. sp. 6 pp., 2 figs, 4.

Two new Elysia species were found in brackish mangrove habitats in the southern part of the Gulf of Thailand in the area around Pattani. Elysia bangtawaensis, a large species with grooved rhinophores, was discovered living on bare mud in mangrove forests. This species looks like a fallen leaf and shows sophisticated phototrophic behaviour enabling it to survive without feeding while producing many eggs over a long period. Elysia siamensis, a small species, was found on filamentous green algae in a brackish channel. The latter species has long, thin, cylindrical rhinophores, and is further characterized by a screw-like penis, and a long thin process on the tip of its metapodium. New taxa: Elysia bangtawaensis n. sp., Elysia siamensis 6 pp., 2 figs, 4.

Dr. Ingvar Kristensen, born on 11 February 1918, died on 24 March 1996. He had a distinguished career as a marine biologist in the Netherlands and in the Netherlands Antilles. He was member of the staff of the NIOZ (Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, Den Helder-Texel, 1946-1956, 1964-1982), and was director of the CARMABI (Caribbean Marine Biological Institute, Curaçao, 1960-1964, 1970-1981). He was also intensely involved in nature conservation, particularly in the Caribbean. In addition he was an accomplished aquarist and orchid lover. His malacological research was mainly focussed on ecology and physiology of marine molluscs. This obituary concludes with a list of his malacological publications. 6 pp., 1 fig., gr. 8.
