Añadir al carritoKATHERINE BELLAMANN'S COPY. First printing (with date at foot of title page per Houghton Mifflin's standard contemporary practice) INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR TO KATHERINE BELLAMANN. xiv, 380 pages. Hardcover: H 21cm x L 14.25cm. Lacks dust jacket. Beige cloth lightly soiled with a few foxing spots, small slender and light ink streak at lower spine. Some abrasion spots to lightly toned edges; faint staining at corner of bottom edge and fore-edge heel. Light toning to endpapers; chipping at bottom margins of pages 241-246 but not affecting text; dark stain at bottom gutter corners of pages 310-327. Author's three-line ink inscription on the front free endpaper: "For Katherine Bellamann | [illegible] | David L. Cohn." Interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm. A very good- copy. Classic essay commenting on the segregated life and customs amongst whites and African Americans in the Mississippi Delta which Greenville, Mississippi author David Cohn so artfully described as a region which "begins in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel [Memphis] and ends on Catfish Row in Vicksburg." The text is comprised of two sections with Part One "1935" taken from Cohn's 1935 book GOD SHAKES CREATION and Part Two "1947" offering Cohn's insights and observations regarding the region and the various transitions that had occurred over the past twelve year span. A noted poet and author in her own right, Katherine Bellamann was also the wife of KINGS ROW novelist Henry Bellamann, aka Heinrich Hauer Bellamann, with the book's provenance being from a collection of Bellamann material inherited by a family descendant. {MS-Shelf#9} Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller.
