Hardback. Condición: Good. ?If you are scratching your head as to how radicals could have seized control in Washington, and of American media, while defaming American democracy as a ?white supremacist? nightmare, look no further than the left?s transformation of American universities into ideological boot camps for Marxist treachery. Brutal Minds is a model of clarity and straight talk about this national tragedy, whose destructive energies have yet to run their course.? ?DAVID HOROWITZ, Bestselling Author of Final BattleMuch of university life is controlled by subsidized paranoiacs, amateur psychotherapists, neo-Marxist totalitarians, ?student affairs professionals? imbued with authoritarian mentality, and racialist thought reformers who run workshops that destroy family ties and traditional beliefs to clear the way for new relationships grounded in racialist ideology. These are the brutal minds who threaten and abuse students in the name of an academic fraud called ?antiracist pedagogy.? In Brutal Minds, award-winning professor Stanley K. Ridgley exposes the dangers of radicalization, cancel culture, academic censorship, and the growing influence of socialists ?boldly transforming? colleges across the country into reeducation camps of dull conformity. An educational charade masks activities and ideology as dangerous as those that inspired Communist China?s tragic Cultural Revolution. This book strips away the façade of the modern American university to reveal the malignant bureaucratic viscera inside the institution. It is a dark world, an anti-intellectualist sanctuary where brutal minds find purpose, protection, camaraderie, subsidy, and power. Dr. Ridgley?s book calls us to action to halt this anti-intellectual takeover of higher education and to restore the greatness of one of Western civilization?s most brilliant creations, the American University.?A tale of how one of history?s great institutions?the American university?is undergoing an infiltration by an army of mediocrities whose goal is to destroy it as an institution of knowledge creation and replace it with an authoritarian organ of ideology and propaganda.??From the Preface to Brutal Minds.…

Hardback. Condición: Good. This fully updated and revised sixth edition offers readers a comprehensive set of tools for understanding the urban landscape and, by extension, the world s politics, cultures, and economies. Providing a sweeping overview of world urban geography, noted experts explore the eleven major global regions. Each regional chapter considers urban history, economy, culture, and environment, as well as urban spatial models and problems and prospects. This edition focuses specifically on urban environmental issues, social and economic injustice, security and conflict, the history of urban settlement, urban models, and daily life. Building on 2015 as the Year of Water, the book introduces urban water concerns as a common undercurrent running through all chapters. The contributors explore how water affects cities and how cities affect water from glacier loss to growing aridity, sea-level rise, increased flooding, potable water scarcity, and beyond. Vignettes of key cities give the reader a vivid understanding of daily life and the spirit of place. Liberally illustrated in full color with a new selection of photographs, maps, and diagrams, the text also includes distinctive textboxes to highlight key topics such as gender and the city, Islamic fashion, and global warming. Clearly written and timely, Cities of the World will be invaluable for introductory or advanced classes on global cities, regional geography, the developing world, and urban studies.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. Stanley Lyman, who was the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) superintendent at the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1973, gives an inside view of what happened when the American Indian Movement (AIM) activists occupied the village of Wounded Knee. Close to the action, he recorded it with unusual candor, directing his sorrow, frustration, and occasional anger to all parties involved-the Tribal Council, the Justice Department, the BIA, FBI, and AIM. His account of the besiegers and besieged reveals a well-meaning and intelligent man forced by dramatic events to reevaluate some long-cherished assumptions. It deserves to be read and studied in any attempt to understand fully Wounded Knee I. Floyd A. O'Neil and Susan McKay edited Wounded Knee 1973 with the help of the author's widow, June K Lyman. Alvin Josephy, Jr., who describes this book as a very human document of an 'odd man out' in great personal travail, is the author of Red Power: The American Indians' Fight for Freedom, also available in a Bison Books edition.…

Paperback. Condición: Good. The initial plans for this book sprang from a late-afternoon conversation in a hotel bar. All three authors were attending the 1996 meeting of the Population As- ciation of America in New Orleans. While nursing drinks and expounding on a variety of topics, we began talking about our current research projects. It so happened that all three of us had been entertaining the notion of writing a book on state and local population projections. Recognizing the enormity of the project for a single author, we quickly decided to collaborate. Had we not decided to work together, it is unlikely that this book ever would have been written. The last comprehensive treatment of state and local population projections was Don Pittenger's excellent work Projecting State and Local Populations (1976). Many changes affecting the production of population projections have occurred since that time. Technological changes have led to vast increases in computing power, new data sources, the development of GIS, and the creation of the Internet. The procedures for applying a number of projection methods have changed considerably, and several completely new methods have been developed.…
