Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. Illustrated Edition. An unusually appealing provenance copy of James Stalker's influential The Life of St. Paul, one of the most widely used Bible study texts of the early twentieth century. Originally published as part of the Hand Book for Bible Classes series, this revised 1912 edition presents Stalker's concise yet scholarly examination of the Apostle Paul's life, missionary journeys, theology, and historical setting. The work became a standard study text for ministers, theological students, Bible institutes, Sunday schools, and church study groups throughout the English-speaking world. This example is distinguished by its documented association with the Young family library, substantially enhancing its historical interest beyond that of an ordinary reading copy. The front endpaper bears the ownership inscription: "Anne Young, 1924." Also included is an original loose handwritten page of theological notes written on the printed stationery of: Mrs. C. H. Young, M.D. Anderson, South Carolina The notes summarize key themes from the Epistle to the Galatians, including: dating of Galatians the Galatian churches Paul's missionary journeys apostolic authority justification by faith chapter outline references to A.D. 55-56 "Magna Charta of Christian Liberty" These appear to be authentic working notes prepared for Bible instruction or personal theological study rather than later ownership scribbles. The volume further contains extensive contemporary pencil annotations and underlining throughout sections discussing Paul's missionary journeys, his ministry in Asia Minor, Athens, Ephesus, Galatians, and early Christian doctrine, providing an excellent example of how this handbook was actively used by serious Bible students during the early twentieth century. A decorative period bookmark featuring sailing vessels also remains with the volume. The folding color map, "The Eastern Mediterranean Roman Empire at the Death of Herod Agrippa I, A.D. 44," is complete and well preserved. Historical Importance James Stalker (1848-1927), Scottish Presbyterian minister and theologian, was among the most respected evangelical writers of his generation. His biographies of Jesus and Paul shaped Protestant Bible education for decades and were translated into numerous languages. This edition reflects early twentieth-century evangelical scholarship during a period when systematic Bible classes became central to church education across North America and Great Britain. The surviving study notes, annotations, and documented ownership transform this copy into an excellent artifact illustrating how educated Protestant readers—including a physician and members of the Young family—engaged deeply with biblical scholarship during the 1910s and 1920s. Provenance From the library of the Young family. Includes: Ownership inscription of Anne Young (1924) Original handwritten theological study notes on the stationery of Mrs. C. H. Young, M.D., Anderson, South Carolina Contemporary reader's annotations throughout Original period decorative bookmark These elements provide exceptional evidence of the book's long history of active devotional and scholarly use.…
