Añadir al carritoThe principal editor, Pat Sloan, was among the most Stalinist of British communists and these 7 issues of Russia Today are from the period when Russia had allied itself with Nazi Germany. The Issue from July 1941, for example, announces the Nazi assault on the Soviet Union, while in April 1945 the magazine argues for a strong and trusting relationship with the Soviets as they advance on Berlin. Sloan openly supported Stalin and his Show Trials in the 1930s and condemned Trotsky while finding no contradiction between Stalin's dictatorship and what he saw as a wider social democracy in the Soviet Union. The issue for 1947 (16pp) celebrates 30 years of Soviet power. The magazine is committed to the cause of the Communist Party of Great Britain and is a good example of Soviet foreign propaganda. Each 8pp stapled copy is well illustrated with b&w photos and the solidity of Stalin's grip on power is reflected in the high socialist realist design, especially in the photography and the conservatism of the layout. This in spite of the madonna and child iconography of the Jan 1941 issue. Printed on newsprint that is now age tanned and fragile, with some light rusting to staples, The Nov 1947 issue has detached covers and the front cover is damaged. Overall in Good to Very Good condition.
