Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is one of the most widespread diseases of solanaceous vegetables, viz., tomato, eggplant, chili, and potato in India and the world. The disease is serious and soil-borne in nature and damage of crop is widespread and loss is significant. Several researches on understanding the nature of pathogens and ways and means of mitigation of the loss have been done in India and abroad but these are not available at one place and pose problems to seekers of information. Research work done on losses and epidemiology have been compiled in the fifth chapter in which detailed information on survival and host range has also been included.
