Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This book follows the amazing life of John Corbly, circa 1733 to 1803, from the time he was shanghaied in Ireland as a young teenager to the troublesome times of the Whisky Rebellion in frontier Pennsylvania. Once in America, he experiences some good luck. Indentured to a good Christian family, he learns farming, believing it to be his destiny. But those were not God's plans for him, and this unassuming young man eventually becomes a lay preacher and evangelist. Persecuted for his beliefs, he moves his family to the wild frontier of Pennsylvania. Once he reaches this untamed area, like the other frontiersmen, Corbly finds only pain and suffering as crops fail, there is no money, and Indian raids wipe out whole communities in a matter of minutes. The fledgling government has little respect for these rugged frontiersmen. The bureaucrats think this remote province across the mountains is good for only one thing - collecting taxes - that these poor, unfortunate frontier families are not able to pay. More fear and anguish results from the brutal actions of the Federal government who send troops and drag the suspected "insurrectionists" out of their beds in the dead of winter. Yet, through it all, the indefatigable Rev. John Corbly never loses faith, establishes many churches throughout Pennsylvania, and continues to evangelize until his dying breath. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Author Sam Hossler makes history come alive! This fast-paced, easy-to-read historical novel replays actual events that took place in the mid 1700s in Western Pennsylvania where the Allegheny and Monogahela rivers converge to form the Ohio. This frontier area was seething with bloody tensions as Native Americans, early pioneers, British and French agents, and trappers were engaged in a hostile battle for the land. Hossler wrote the book after a lifetime interest in the outdoors and years of historical research. He uses dates, battles, locations and characters from Pennsylvania's past to create a book that literally races along. Frontier at Three Rivers focuses on one small slice of history, in two segments that take place ten years apart. This fictionalized account is historically accurate, describing the bribery, deception, stealing and political intrigue of the time as well as the atrocities and bloody battles between the warring factions. Readers will learn about this time in American History while feeling the unshakable pioneer spirit of the early settlers and the fierce pride of the Native Americans upon whose land this story unfolds. Frontier at Three Rivers combines two previously published books: The Summer of 1763, Dog Ear Publishing, 2005; and The Great Land Grab, Dog Ear Publishing, 2007 This item is printed on demand.
