'By his own request Lawrence was given the French work Le Gigantesque to translate soon after his expulsion from the R.A.F. and re-enlistment in the Tank Corps in 1923. He appears to have been motivated both by a need for funds and by the wish to fill his free time.' [O'Brien p. 74]. In 1935, Cape published this edition, with illustrations by Agnes Miller Parker.
