Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The series 'Medical Radiology - Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Oncology' is the successor to the well known 'Encyclopedia of Medical RadiologyjHandbuch der medizinischen Radiologie'. This international handbook with its unique compila tion of dat…a in more than fifty volumes lags behind the fast developing knowledge in radiology today. 'Medical Radiology' brings the state of the art on special topics in a timely fashion. The first volume of the series was 'Lung cancer', edited by Scarantino. This volume 'Innovation in Radiation Oncology', edited by H.R. Withers and L.J. Peters, presents data on the development of new therapeutic strategies in different oncologic diseases. 57 authors wrote 32 chapters covering a broad range of topics. The innovations are at various levels of development, but were all chosen with the practicing radiation oncologist in mind. Perhaps not all of the innovations will survive the test of time, others have now become well established standard procedure in some centers. Also discussed is the assessment of the effectiveness of standard treat ment and how it effects the quality of a patient's survival. The contributions have been grouped into 9 broad sections as outlined in the table of contents. We think the second volume, as the whole series, will provide valuable reading for the general community of radiation oncologists.

Wraps. Condición: Very good. Various paginations (approximately 90 pages, in Tabs A through H. March 1, 2002 and May 31, 2001 letters related to Oak Ridge Couriers stapled together laid in. April 3, 2002 letter to Secretary Spencer Abraham on Oak Ridge Nuclear Couriers, with NNSA Correspondence ticket 2002-01684 laid in, which i…ncluded a copy of "The Moe Report". This is the preferred (corrected) version of The Moe Report. The U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration's Office of Secure Transportation provides safe and secure transportation of nuclear weapons and components and special nuclear materials, and conducts other missions supporting the national security of the United States of America. Since 1947, the U.S. Department of Energy and its earlier agencies have moved nuclear weapons, nuclear components, and special nuclear materials by various commercial and government transportation modes. This panel was established in large part to examine the claim that the communication between TSD management and the special agents (SAs) had broken down. The panel concludes that there is a fundamental, deep, and long-standing lack of trust and respect between SAs and TSD management. The panel discovered that dissatisfaction is equally widespread and deeply felt across all three sections. The panel found that many managers do indeed have a negative view of the agents. The panel heard numerous instances of special agents acting in a non-professional manner with management. The panel observed evidence that the agents are correct about how they are viewed. The panel received a variety of stories to support these views. Agents believe that many managers do not deserve their respect. More than half of special agents interviewed by the panel expressed negative attitudes toward managers. Edited Version with a number of typographical correction and a single substantive change (p. 25).

Wraps. Condición: Good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. 70 pages (per DD Form 1473). Footnotes. Tables. Figures. References. Cover has some wear and soiling. Small tear at top of spine. This report distills from available data descriptions of typical human symptoms in reaction to prompt ionizing radiation in the dose ran…ge 75 to 4500 rads (cGy) free-in-air. The descriptions correlated symptoms which dose and time over the acute postexposure period of six weeks. their purpose is to provide an empirical base for estimating combat troop performance after a nuclear weapon attack. We divide the dose range of interest into eight subranges associated with important pathophysiological events. For each subrange, we estimate the signs and symptoms manifested by an exposed population--symptom onset, severity, duration, and incidence. The early or prodromial phase of radiation sickness begins about 2 to 4 hours after doses of 300 to 530 rads (cGy). Onset time diminishes with dose, occurring within minutes of exposure to 4500 rods (cGy) . Characteristic prodromal symptoms are nausea, vomiting, anorexia, and diarrhea. The prodromal phase lasts from several days to a matter of hours, depending on the dose. Despite differences of population characteristics, environmental conditions, and medical attention between the exposed persons represented by our data and by battlefield soldiers, we believe these symptom descriptions are relevant to combat personnel. This work was sponsored by the Defense Nuclear Agency. Dr. Anno was born to a Polish mother and a Japanese father, who lived in hiding during Executive Order 9066. A graduate of UC Berkeley, the first biophysics major, he began his career working with rockets and space travel by performing the radiation transport analysis for deep space travel. George would go on to a distinguished national career as an expert in biophysics, especially the effects of acute ionizing radiation on human beings. He studied the effects of radiation on the body. At the Three Mile Island disaster, protocol for evacuation was followed based on his seminal research. Anno would spend the majority of his time working for Pacific Sierra Research Corporation. As the principal author of several often-cited scholarly publications, he continued to be consulted by both the Defense Department and the Dept. of Energy. At age 76, at General Dynamics as senior Staff Scientist, he worked closely with medical doctors and published important mathematical studies of Influenza and Ebola transmission and their effects on populations. H. (Hubert) Rodney Withers (September 21, 1932 - February 25, 2015) was an Australian radiation biologist and physician. He made many contributions to the fields of radiobiology and clinical radiation therapy, but he is best known for his work on post-radiation tissue repair and the effects of ionizing radiation on normal tissues. He received his medical degree from the University of Queensland and his Ph.D. and D.Sc. from the University of London. He worked at the Gray Laboratory in England, the National Cancer Institute, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney, and at UCLA where he served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. Withers received numerous awards and honors for his research including the Enrico Fermi Award.

He was a recipient of the Enrico Fermi Award, a Presidential award honoring scientists of international stature for their lifetime achievement in the development, use, or production of energy. It was established in 1956 by the United States Department of Energy in memorial of Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi and his work in the development of nuclear power. The recipient of the award receives $100,000, a certificate signed by the President and the Secretary of Energy, and a gold medal featuring the likeness of Enrico Fermi. Robert W. Young retired from the Defense Nuclear Agency. This article distills from available data descriptions of typical human symptoms in reaction to prompt total-body ionizing radiation in the dose range 0.5 to 30 Gy midline body tissue. The symptoms are correlated with dose and time over the acute postexposure period of 6 wk. The purpose is to provide a symptomatology basis for assessing early functional impairment of individuals who may be involved in civil defense, emergency medical care and various military activities in the event of a nuclear attack. The dose range is divided into eight subranges associated with important pathophysiological events. For each subrange, signs and symptoms are designated including estimates of symptom onset, severity, duration and incidence. The purpose is to provide an empirical base for estimating combat troop performance after a nuclear weapon attack. Analyses of "composite" data, including the experience of Japanese atomic bomb survivors, was included in this analysis.
