Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book reveals how the study of heart failure, a grave and often fatal event, has been greatly advanced by studying the auricles. The author begins by introducing the pertinent anatomy and physiology of the heart and by explaining how the condition of auricular flutter was first discovered. It then examines the various disorders of the heart's action triggered by extrasystoles and atrial fibrillation, and how these conditions are associated with allied disorders. Finally, this book discusses the physiological, pathological, and clinical facts surrounding auricular flutter and explores the features that distinguish it from other heart rhythm abnormalities. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Holderness's predecessor Sir Richmond Ritchie (1854-1912) had died ten days before the writing of the letter, as a result, according to the Oxford DNB, of the undermining of his health by 'unremitting hard work [.] over several years'. Holderness begins the letter: 'It is very good of you to congratulate me on succeeding to poor Ritchie's responsibilities. I wish from the bottom of my heart that the circumstance had not arisen.' His shadow haunts the room.' He concludes with an invitation to Havelock-Allan to visit him 'whenever the spirit moves you'.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. xii, 144 pp; 107 figs. Original cloth. Xlib: white ink no. on spine, institutional bookplate. Very Good. First Edition. Garrison-Morton 2843. "A pioneer work on auricular flutter based on 11 personal cases and 42 recorded by others. William Adam Jolly and Ritchie first named this arrhythmia [in 1910, Garrison-Morton 2833] and Ritchie first recognised it in man [1905, Garrison-Morton 2821]" (Bedford 534). Copy of Frank T. (Taylor) Fulton, with his signature on the title page. Quoting from an obituary of Frank Taylor Fulton: "In the summer of 1912 he went to England to study with Sir James McKenzie from whom he learned something of the use of the polygraph. With his own polygraph he recognized and subsequently published the first cases of auricular flutter reported in the American literature. Two years later he went again to England to work with Sir Thomas Lewis on the infant science of electrocardiography. This time he returned with an invoice promising delivery of his own electrocardiograph machine, which, in spite of the hazards of British shipping of World War I, arrived in 1915 and was immediately installed by him at his instigation in Rhode Island Hospital. This private purchase of a machine, the size of an upright piano, installed voluntarily in a hospital seems a far cry from our modern age of expanded hospital budgets, generous grants-in-aid and sixteen pound 'portables'. It was the move that started the development of the Heart Station at Rhode Island Hospital which ever after remained Frank Fulton's great interest.".
