Edition originale de cette étude sur la harpe Pleyel par Jean Risler (1865-1932), harpiste et professeur de harpe français. L'étude comprend des méthodes techniques, des exemples musicaux, des illustrations et des listes complètes du répertoire. Risler fut le premier à présenter la harpe Pleyel à l'Exposition Internationale de 1897 à Bruxelles. En 1898 il ouvre la première classe de harpe chromatique à Lille. François-August Gevaert, le directeur du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, introduisit le nouvel instrument au programme du conservatoire dont il confia la classe à Jean Risler en 1900. La composition de Danse sacrée et Danse profane de Debussy, financée par la maison Pleyel pour promouvoir la harpe chromatique, était notamment destinée au concours de sortie de la classe de Risler de l'année 1904. La classe de harpe chromatique du Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, dont le dernier professeur, un siècle plus tard, fut Francette Bartholomée, connut une existence bien plus durable que son homologue de Paris, rapidement menacé par le manque d enthousiasme de Fauré pour l'instrument.
