Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - A Byzantine chronicle is a retelling of history, usually beginning with the creation of the world, written in simple language and enriched by colourful anecdotes or tantalizing details on political intrigues. Though extremely popular in the Middle Ages, these texts were long disregarded by scholars due to their historical unreliability and lack of originality. Now, however, they are increasingly appreciated for the insights they provide into Byzantine ideology and the complex interaction of reading and writing in Byzantium. This volume highlights and contributes to the radical re-evaluation of this long-neglected genre of medieval literature. Contributors are: Raimondo Tocci, William Adler, Thomas M. Banchich, Albrecht Berger, Richard W. Burgess, John Burke, Réka Forrai, Christian Gastgeber, Martin Hinterberger, Marek Jankowiak, Ralph-Johannes Lilie, Athanasios Markopoulos, Mischa Meier, Federico Montinaro, Diether Roderich Reinsch, Fabian Schulz, Roger Scott, Paul Tuffin, Staffan Wahlgren, and Varvara Zharkaya.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware -Byzantine chronicles constitute together with histories the supreme discipline of Byzantine literature, i. e. historiography. They are undoubtedly an important vehicle of Byzantine ideology and the reassessment of their literariness is increasingly attracting attention by scholars working in the area of Byzantine historical writing. The present volume offers the editio princeps of a 10th-century anonymous short chronicle (Kurzchronik) which covers the period from Adam up to 976. The text draws mainly from the interpolated version of George the Monk s chronicle which belongs to the circle of the Logothetes chronicle , and is preserved in two 15th-century manuscripts, Vat. Pal. gr. 369 and Vind. phil. gr. 333 (the latter, the only one to transmit the beginning of the chronicle, is newly discovered). The critical edition, complete with Prolegomena and Indexes, is accompanied by a German translation. Since most texts belonging to this subgenre of the Byzantine chronicle are still unpublished, this edition lays the groundwork for determining its position within the history of Byzantine literature, as well as its ideological and didactic function. 230 pp. Deutsch, Griechisch.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume presents the first critical edition of the anonymous world chronicle titled Chronica which gives a condensed account of events from Adam up to the death of the Byzantine Emperor Alexios I Komnenos (ruled 1081-1118). The introduction includes a discussion of the relationship of the Chronica to the Synopsis chronike of Theodoros Skutariotes (13th century), and the Chronica is shown to be a preliminary by Theodoros to the Synopsis chronike.; In der vorliegenden Ausgabe wird die im Kodex Vaticanus gr. 1889 (13.
