Leere Worthülsen und Wohlfühlthemen einer digitalen Bohème oder realistische Forderungen in einer Zeit höchster Belastung, die alle Berufsgruppen stellen können und die die Dynamik zwischen Arbeitgeber\*innen und Arbeitnehmer\*innen nachhaltig verändern werden Arbeit ist jedoch nicht nur unter wirtschaftlichen Gesichtspunkten zu sehen, sie kann und sollte auch eine Quelle von Sinn und Erfüllung im Leben eines Menschen sein, unsere Identität und unser Selbstverständnis prägen. Der Traum von der Befreiung der Arbeit von ökonomischen Zwängen wurde von dem deutschen Philosophen und Sozialtheoretiker Herbert Marcuse Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts geprägt: Während in der heutigen Konsumgesellschaft, in der die Menschen auf materiellen Besitz fokussiert sind, die Arbeit zu einem bloßen Mittel zum Zweck wird, um den Konsum zu ermöglichen (was wiederum zu einer oberflächlichen und entfremdeten Lebensweise führt), könnte eine Gesellschaft, in der die Arbeit nicht mehr das zentrale Element im Leben ist, den Menschen mehr Zeit für persönliche Entfaltung, kulturelle Aktivitäten und kreativen Ausdruck lassen.Die Veränderungen in der Arbeitswelt, die unsere Gegenwart prägen, sind komplex und vielschichtig und spiegeln die Anpassungsfähigkeit und die anhaltende Suche nach Gleichgewicht in einer sich ständig verändernden Welt wider. In einer nicht zu fernen Zukunft werden Technologien wie KI und Automatisierung die Arbeitswelt weiter verändern und neue Herausforderungen mit sich bringen, die erneut einen sozialen und politischen Diskurs erfordern. Doch steht Arbeit tatsächlich an der Schwelle zur Immaterialität oder besteht nicht eher die Gefahr, dass auf jene körperliche, geistige und emotionale Arbeit, die mit unzähligen Bereichen unseres Lebens verbunden ist, vergessen wird Kann harte Arbeit durch Körper und Hände möglicherweise bald von Maschinen übernommen werden und sind wir vielleicht an einem Punkt, an dem Marcuses Vision Wirklichkeit werden könnte Die Ausstellung untersucht schließlich auch die oft prekären Aspekte künstlerischer und kultureller Arbeit und stellt Fragen nach der Verwischung der Grenzen zwischen Selbstausbeutung und Selbstverwirklichung. Ein Teil der Ausstellungsfläche steht Neuproduktionen und performativen Kunstprojekten zur Verfügung, die die Ausstellung während ihrer Laufzeit wachsen lassen. Eine in Koproduktion mit dem Museum für Geschichte entstandene Arbeit stammt etwa von den Filmemacher\*innen Simon Nagy und Lia Sudermann, die sich mit Beständen aus dem Fotoarchiv Blaschka beschäftigen. Unter dem Titel Alles Arbeit erzählt das Museum für Geschichte parallel zur Ausstellung im Kunsthaus Graz anhand von historischen Pressefotografien aus der Agentur Foto Blaschka von der Schieflage in der Arbeitswelt und den massiven Ungleichheiten zwischen den Geschlechtern, die zum Teil bis heute bestehen.
