Soft cover. Condición: Fine. Set during an alternate history of post-World War II United States, the series follows events after an airborne alien virus is released over New York City in 1946 and eventually infects tens of thousands globally. The virus, designed to rewrite DNA, was developed as a bioweapon by a noble family on the planet Takis, and it is taken to Earth to test on humans, who are genetically identical to the people of Takis. Dr. Tachyon, a member of this family, objects and attempts to stop them. However, his attempt crashes their ship, releasing the virus. The virus affects each individual differently, and it becomes known as the Wild Card virus because of these "random and unpredictable" symptoms. It kills 90% of those who contract it and mutates the remaining percentage. Of that remainder, 9% are Jokers, who develop minor or crippling physical conditions. 1% are Aces, who remain human or mostly human in appearance but develop superhuman abilities; Aces whose abilities are too trivial or specific to be generally valuable are called Deuces. Featuring the work of writer, George R. R. Martin, who is best known for his series of epic fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire, which was later adapted into the HBO series Game of Thrones. Trade Paperback reprints/collects: Wild Cards (1990) Issues #1-4. When 15 years of age she moved with her family to Troy, NY, where her father became a warden of the Episcopal Church there, a post he held for thirty years. After the death of her husband in 1834 she looked for a greater opportunity of service, and began a Saturday school for children in 1835. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Good Only. A very scarce collection of letters in which the Manchester Literary Club discuss Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem 'To a Skylark'. An association copy. In this very scarce collection of letters published by the Manchester Literary Club, the members discuss Percy Bysshe Shelley's poem, 'Ode to a Skylark'. An association copy, given to the poet Richard Garnett by the president of the Club, John Howard Nodal. Founded in 1862, The Manchester Literary Club aimed to provide a means of education and recreation by reading papers aloud. Comprised of men from various backgrounds, the club offered the opportunity for those in Manchester and its surrounding areas to meet, hear literary papers read, enjoy trips to places of interest, and share meals together. The volume is a republication of correspondences that were originally printed in the columns of the Manchester City News. The letters continue a discussion of Shelley's 'Ode to a Skylark' that was prompted at the close of one of the club's meals. The present copy was a gift from John Howard Nodal, who was president of the Manchester Literary Club from 1873-1879. The journalist was editor of the Manchester City News for thirty three years, and became the recognised organ of literary and scientific societies in Lancashire. The Literary club also began publishing annual papers under his leadership, and he himself contributed several articles on linguistics and dialect. The present copy was given to the scholar and poet Richard Garnett. Garnett discovered and edited some unpublished poems by Shelley, and edited the republication of the collection in 1898. The nineteenth century writer also translated numerous volumes of Greek, German, Italian, and Portuguese verse, along with biographies of Thomas Carlyle, John Milton, and William Blake. The ink inscription to the front cover reads, 'Richard Garnett Esq, From J. H Nodal'. In the publisher's original grey paper warps. Externally, sound. The wraps are rather grubby and lightly spotted. The majority of the wrap has been lost to the spine, but remains at the two staple points. The front and rear hinges are very tender as a result. Internally, the binding is generally firm. Pages are lightly foxed throughout. Good Only. None (ilustrador). book.…

The present collection offers a window into the literary world of American poet and humorist Ogden Nash (1902-1971). It is comprised of 239 volumes published between 1886 and 1971, among which are numerous presentation and association copies. All books in the present collection come from the shared personal library of Ogden and Frances Nash. The collection spans poetry, humor, light verse, and literary criticism, and includes a significant number of first and limited editions, often in original bindings or dust jackets. Of particular note are six books inscribed by Nash to his wife, Frances (including five authored by Nash, one of which is in an "Author's Copy" half-leather binding). Included in the collection are 59 works by Nash, three of which feature edits to the text in Nash's hand. Twenty-seven of these Nash publications are Author's copies bound in half-leather. There are an additional 48 volumes bearing inscriptions to Nash from other authors and poets, most notably twelve volumes inscribed by S.J. Perelman. Among the 132 uninscribed volumes included here, 45 bear Ogden Nash's ownership inscription (10 bear the ownership inscription of Frances Nash). The number and range of authorial inscriptions represented in the present collections reflect Nash's wide-ranging literary friendships and professional associations. Notable among these are twelve warmly inscribed titles by humorist S.J. Perelman, whose acerbic wit is on display in a series of affectionate, playful, and sometimes satirical inscriptions to both Nash and his wife, Frances. These volumes also reflect Perelman and Nash's shared experiences in Hollywood and the literary scene of mid-century America. Other highlights include inscriptions from John Betjeman, Christopher Morley, E.C. Bentley, A.P. Herbert, David McCord, William Plumer Fowler, and Holger Lundbergh, among others-each evidencing Nash's influence and the esteem in which he was held across literary and cultural circles in the U.S. and the U.K. O.…
