Entendiendo que el objetivo principal de este análisis será interrogarnos sobre los cuidados psiquiátricos en las obras de estos investigadores, el trabajo se desarrolla sobre la base de la conformación de las respuestas sociales a los fenómenos, o alteraciones psiquiátricas, que el conjunto de la sociedad percibe y para los cuales desarrollan unas respuestas funcionales más o menos idóneas que tratan de reintegrar al sujeto enfermo al seno de la comunidad. La elección de estos tres antropólogos está fundamentada en el caso de Malinowski y Mead por sus estudios de campo y en el de Bateson por sus teorías muy dentro de la investigación que proponemos.
