While the first European settlers arrived in the district in the early 1840s, the au…thor presents a summary of the area in its pre-European days. He then records the development of the distrct through milling, agriculture, the establishment of the fledgling town, which received borough status in 1877, taking the story through to the mid-1880s, covering the development of facilities, commerce and industry, transport, amenities and community activities. Now quite scarce. First edition of 1952, 102 pages, folded colour photo frontis, 18 b/w plates, mainly photos, some art and including two fold-out photos (five and four folds respectively).
