Zum Rechtsberater des Königs von Spanien ernannt, erbat dieser von Perez ein Rechtsgutachten bezüglich der von Ludwig XIV. auf einen Teil der Niederlande erhobenen Gebietsansprüche. Perez hatte den Mut, den Entscheid zugunsten des französischen Königs ausfallen zu lassen. Die vorliegenden ?Erotemata?, d.h. Fragestellungen zu den Institutionen Justinians, die in mehreren Auflagen erschienen, sind auf die praktische Aneignung des Rechtsstoffes angelegt. Denn die Darstellungen von anderen Juristen wie Cujas, so sagt Perez ?Ad Lectorem?, seien für Gelehrte geschrieben, er aber wolle den Anfängern eine Handreichung bieten. Dem Titelblatt zufolge handelt es sich beim vorliegenden Band ausschliesslich um die Institutionen als erstem (vollständigen) Teil, dem ein zweiter über das kanonische Recht beigegeben war, der aber hier nicht vorhanden ist.
