Añadir al carritoorig.wrappers. Condición: Minor rubbing. VG. 21x13cm, 274 pp., PAPERBACK. Series: European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations "The housing conditions of Turks in Western Europe and their market options are critical but under discussed issues. Many Turks still occupy the less favourable sectors of the labour market, and low income levels restrict housing choices. Discrimination imposes further limitations upon them. In this book, leading scholars in the field describe the housing conditions of Turks in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. The authors of the various chapters go beyond mere description to explain the housing market positions of Turks in each of these countries. A thorough investigation is thus made of factors which may affect housing conditions, including: labour market developments and the employment situation of Turks; discrimination; state welfare provisions; and the preferences and priorities of individuals themselves. A further comparative element is introduced by examining different locations within each country. A rather bleak picture emerges of Turks still occupying a disadvantaged position in the housing markets of the countries under review. Some promising developments are also evident, however, in that Turks on average live in better situations now than they did ten years ago. This volume should appeal to academics, students and policy-makers" - publisher's description.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Policy-makers tend to view the residential segregation of minority ethnic groups in a negative light as it is seen as an obstacle to their integration. In the literature on neighbourhood effects, the residential concentration of minorities is seen as a major impediment to their social mobility and acculturation, while the literature on residential segregation emphasises the opposite causal direction, by focusing on the effect of integration on levels of (de-)segregation.This volume, however, indicates that the link between integration and segregation is much less straightforward than is often depicted in academic literature and policy discourses. Based on research in a wide variety of western countries, it can be concluded that the process of assimilation into the housing market is highly complex and differs between and within ethnic groups. The integration pathway not only depends on the characteristics of migrants themselves, but also on the reactions of the institutions and the population of the receiving society. Linking Integration and Residential Segregation exposes the link between integration and segregation as a two-way relationship involving the minority ethnic groups and the host society, highlighting the importance of historical and geographical context for social and spatial outcomes. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. 216 pp. Englisch.…
