Orr here juxtaposes foundational documents of American democracy, e.g., George Washington's Farewell Address, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, with addresses given at the Native American Conventions in Philadelphia and Harrisburg in 1845. These gatherings of the American Party and their allies drew on America's political heritage to flesh out Nativist sentiments into a coherent xenophobic ideology and led ultimately to the formation of the Know-Nothing Party, which had electoral force in the 1850s. A beautiful copy of some disturbing writings.
