Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Casino of Atonement The clandestine, illegal SPSCG operation initiated by MI5 against the IRA takes on a new, even more murderous direction. Their counterpart in Spain, CESID is in a race against time to prevent ETA from bombing the popular tourist resorts along the Costa Blanca. Jonathan Amersbey, Alistair MacLeod and Inaki Anton remain ensnared; entangled in the labyrinth of intrigue, and struggle to liberate themselves from the ruthless conspiracies of governments and terrorist alike. Belfast, Barcelona, Bilbao, Benidorm, Berlin when the wall is breached in 1989 to the Costa Blanca and the tiny village of Tighnabruaich on the west coast of Scotland. These are the locations that provide the backdrop for nail-biting action and suspense in this, the final chapter of The Karma Killings trilogy. In the initial planning of the novels, and to illustrate my thoughts, I decided that it would be interesting to follow the paths of three young boys whose only connection is that they are born on the same day. They all begin life in similar circumstances in that poverty is not an issue, but family circumstances and environment definitely marks them all as different from each other. The most conventional of the three is Alistair MacLeod, son of a hard working couple of hoteliers. He is probably the most conservative, conventional young guy of the three, just trying to live a normal life. Happy, pretty girlfriend; no problems in the family; socially sound and so on. The guy next door so to speak. Jonathan Amersbey however is dysfunctional from an early age. He is suffering from parental indifference and neglect from overly ambitious Royal Navy parents. Shunted about from one private boarding school to another makes him into a rebellious loner. The last of the three is Spanish, Inaki Anton, born into a wealthy Basque country industrialist. Good family, good student, environmentalist, with a great future ahead of him; that is until the GAL secret police come after him after an anti-nuclear rally. The second of my background themes is how the manipulation and influences of adults, criminal organisations, terrorists, politicians and even governments interfere with the three youngsters future destiny. The most profound of these is how the young Inaki is hounded out of Spain only to fall into the nest of republican nationalism in Ireland. Meanwhile, Jonathan Amersbeys miserable existence is brightened up by meeting and being inspired by an equally rebellious young Welsh girl who introduces him into the world of dissent and protest of the peace campers at the nuclear submarine base at Faslane in Scotland. Alistair MacLeods life up to this point is still happily predictable and comfortable, ensconced in the family hotel business. We come on to the third theme; that of the actions of two distinct, but related terrorist organisations; In Britain and Ireland, the IRA, and the Basque ETA organisation in Spain. The British and Spanish governments have to counter the terrorist threat, often by illegal methods. This is how and when the lives of the three young men cross in a seemingly never ending juxtaposition of coincidences. Inaki Anton is the conduit for these associations, but he is as much a victim as the other two. The only real difference being is that his indoctrination and manipulation has been much more intense and violent than Jonathan or the innocent and clean living Alistair. Those of us whose lives have never really been affected more by terrorism other than observing the horror from a distance through the medium of television, or having to endure the queues in the `ratonera of airport security, should be thankful that our families have remained untouched by the insidious nature of `the cause, for whatever reason that cause is founded upon. However, as far as my story goes, it is all based on fictio Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Karma of Vengeance, Book Two in the Karma Killings Trilogy Following on from the acclaimed suspenseful thriller Malevolent Karma, the interlinked destiny of three young men continues unrelentingly forward. "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a hand for a hand, foot for a foot." (Exodus) According to ones point of view, revenge is an intrinsic and natural part of human behaviour. Its as old as when homo sapiens first walked the earth. Whether humans have this condition as part of their gene systems, developed over thousands of years, and part of our ability to reason that most other animal species have not yet developed, is the subject of much scientific, psychological and philosophical debate. Most of us, at one time or another have experienced the undeniable at times, the fury of wanting to extract revenge. As a child, someone has stolen your sweets; in adolescence, it could have been your boy/ girlfriend, (getting personal here!); or some big corporation or bank has treated you or yours with contempt that the often found in the DNI of the powerful (even more personal!). The action moves through Scotland, Ireland and the Basque country of Spain. The Karma of Vengeance is set in the explosive cocktail bar of social, cultural and political events of the nineteen-eighties.The basic ingredients are fairly standard; sex, power, ambition, corruption, deception, manipulation, love. add to the shaker, a substantial measure of IRA and Basque country terrorism, and an unknown ingredient called karma, and the resulting cocktail is more firewater than toddy. A catastrophic explosion at a small Scottish hotel has wiped out the officer cadre of one the Royal Navy nuclear submarines. The Three young boys are present at the scene by reasons of their destiny. One confesses to accidently causing the conflagration, but other evidence is uncovered that a bomb may have exploded. For reasons of national security, this evidence is suppressed by the government. The IRA and the Thatcher government are maintaining silence. Both want to perpetuate a public posture that it was a tragic accident, but others have reason to demand and exact revenge and retribution. Enjoy the reading, but dont expect a romantic ending! Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Malevolent Karma -(First novel in the Karma Killings trilogy.) Like moths, dancing around a candle, criss-crossing, wings brushing. being drawn inexorably towards the white heat of death, three boys, born on the same day thousands of miles apart become unwitting pawns in this game of chance that is described as destiny. karma. Other players in this game include the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher, the ruthless barons controlling the Provisional IRA, and the Basque terrorist organisation ETA, the boys own parents and friends and the myriad of others who impinge on our daily lives. Set mainly in the 70s and 80s, the action for this thriller flows through Ireland, England, the Basque regions of Spain and France and converge upon the beautiful west coast of Scotland where Britains Polaris ballistic missile submarines are based. Doris Day sang. "Que sera sera, whatever will be, will be." and Robert Burns wrote "The best laid plans of mice and men gang aft agley" (go awry). Do we have the capacity to control our own destiny? Is there some unseen, undetectable element of chance that interferes with the best laid plans of even the most intelligent among us, sometimes beneficial (winning the lottery), sometimes enlightening (bumping into the girl who becomes your wife), or sometimes malicious (the suicide falls on top of you, and he or she gratefully survives). This is a complex and sometimes brutal tale of love and rejection, of trust and treachery, corruption, violence and manipulation of young naive innocent boys resulting in a catastrophic disaster for all the players in the game.
