The available books on the subject are eighter from developed countries or limited to European cattle (Bos Taurus). In the Bhartiya sub-continent, the native bovines are Indian Cattle (Bos Indicus), imported humpless cattle (Bos Taurus) and their crossbreads of different proportions of genetic materials. The Bhartiya cattle (Bos Indicus) fall in three sub-groups of Dairy cattle, dual purpose cattle and draught cattle. The other important dairy bovine is water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) known for their milk of 6-8% fat content.
