Depois do início com o sucesso do compacto "Eu quero é botar meu bloco na rua" (1972), Sérgio Sampaio (1947-1994) lançou, em vida, apenas três discos e em cada um deles intensificou e deslocou alguns caminhos da canção brasileira, criando versos que se tornaram a própria atmosfera dos anos 1970 e, ao mesmo tempo, uma abertura para fora deles. Melancolia, desbunde, elegância e uma concepção afiada de onde a canção vai e do que ela pode fazer com a gente e com o país. Alinhando Nelson Gonçalves e Torquato Neto, o poeta capixaba fez das tripas coração, e depois do coração tutano. Foi infiel aos gêneros musicais que experimentou e com os quais brincou.
