Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Didactics - English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, Moscow State Pedagogical University, language: English, abstract: A sense of humour is one of the notions that is easier described with the help of multiple circumlocutions and sinuous turns of phrases than properly, that is, comprehensively and succinctly defined. For some inexplicable reason most people, if not actually every single person, would feel offended if referred to as having no or little sense of humour. Although, there is no one explanation of this, it seems that it is basically down to the fact that a sense of humour, that is, its presence, is an indication of, allegedly, more significant characteristics that everyone wants to possess, - wit, intelligence, acumen. In other words, the ability to spot and appreciate a joke or one of the other multiple varieties of verbal play (play involving the usage of natural language) is deemed by some an indication, although an indirect one, of a person's mental abilities and even of his/her intellect.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Didactics - English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, Moscow State Pedagogical University, language: English, abstract: Over the years English has been absorbing words from other languages at a pretty smart pace, sometimes giving something in return, sometimes capitalizing on the loan lexemes. As is known, the process of borrowing can be stimulated by various factors, both linguistic and extra-linguistic ones. In the present paper we shall predominantly focus on the latter type of reasons, when a word is borrowed either together with the object it denotes or because the recipient language lacks a lexeme that would render the phenomenon succinctly and accurately. The number of borrowed, that is, non-native words, in English has been estimated as veering between 60 and 80 %, the exact figure, however, is hard to arrive at, partly, because it is not settled when one should stop counting and what date (day) should be deemed as one which registers the quantity of foreign element precisely. Most of the borrowed words in the English word-stock are of Romance origin, which is explained by the historical contacts with Romans, the Norman French, as well as the sway of the Renaissance period in the European cultural tradition.

The topicality of present paper is down to several factors. First, since novel lexemes emerge in the English language on a regular, I would even go as far as to say, on a daily basis, the study, or at least, a comprehensive description of some of them could hardly ever become redundant or superfluous. Second, it constitutes a beneficial task to see how such novel lexemes are distributed over various types of discourse and stylistic strata. Third, it enables one to see which slots in different spheres of human activities are more likely to be filled and which are left gaping.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Scientific Essay from the year 2010 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, Moscow State Pedagogical University (Moscow State Pedagogical University), course: lexicology and stylistics, language: English, abstract: The course investigates some structural, semantic, stylistic and pragmatic specifics of contamination in modern English by comparing it with other word-building patterns - composition, derivation, combining forms and their multiple varieties. Contamination is currently made use of in different types of discourse - advertisements, periodicals, terminology. The aim of the selective course is multiple: first, to prove that contamination is losing its marginal status and is moving centripetally towards the centre; second, to compare contamination with other, contiguous and not, word-forming models; third, to propose a number of exercises that would increase students' awareness of such words. The ultimate aim is to dispel the skeptical attitude towards such words by dint of showing that not all of them are facetious, superfluous or fancy. The course also aims to discuss the application of contamination in advertising and information technology. The intention of the author is to raise students' awareness of the genesis of an utterance. The book is meant for foreign language students, post-graduate students, who mean to link their research to word-formation, teachers of English, as well as for a broader audience of philologists and linguists.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The coursebook purports to enlarge and to variegate learners' lexis, to make them more sensitive to the meanings of synonyms, to raise their awareness of, predominantly, formal and academic English. The coursebook tackles some of the modern scholastic issues, such as cognitive linguistics , ludicrous communication and other. The 12 Units chosen for the course are predominantly based on contemporary texts, selected not only going by the author's personal preference, but also by their topicality, relevance to learners' needs, lexical and stylistic contents. An attempt has been made to select texts whose levels of difficulty are commensurate with learners' capabilities. Some of the exercises presuppose elementary research by learners and encourage them to work on their own outside a classroom setting. The authour genuinely hopes that the coursebook will be of use to those willing to hone their English language skills and learn new facts about medieval and modern England, British sense of humour and what ludicrous communication and language play are all about. 232 pp. Englisch.
