Au cours des dernières années, le phénomène de panne totale s'est produit à plusieurs reprises au Soudan et a causé plusieurs problèmes et défauts dans les centrales électriques. La première fois, la panne totale s'est produite en août 2011, puis deux fois en décembre 2013 et en mai 2015. En 2016, le black-out complet s'est répété trois fois, une fois en février 2017 et une fois en janvier 2018. La dernière panne complète au Soudan a eu lieu en janvier 2019, la centrale thermique de Bahry étant la plus touchée par ce phénomène. Dans l'unité n°6, qui est une centrale à vapeur, les deux arbres des turbines haute et basse pression ont été sérieusement endommagés. D'autres défauts ont été constatés dans les sièges de vilebrequin et les bagues d'huile des turbines à haute et basse pression.
