Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. Male and white privilege are on the decline, yet elite privilege has gone from strength to strength. The privileges enjoyed by the rich and powerful are not only unfair but cause widespread harm, from the everyday slights and humiliations visited on those lower down the scale to the distortions in the labour market when elites use their networks to secure plum jobs, not least in new domains such as professional sports. In this book, Clive Hamilton and Myra Hamilton show that elite privilege is not a mere by-product of wealth but an organising principle for society as a whole. They explore the practices and processes that sustain, legitimise and reproduce elite privilege and show how we are all implicated in the system, both facilitating it and tolerating its harmful effects. Building on their original fieldwork and a wide range of other sources, the authors paint a vivid picture of the micropolitics of elite privilege, highlighting in particular the vital role played by exclusive private schools. Ranging across topics as diverse as 'glamour suburbs', philanthropy, Rhodes scholarships and super-yachts, The Privileged Few delves beneath attempts at concealment to expose how the elites keep getting away with it.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Not a bad copy although with some flaws. On the plus side internally the pages appear to be mostly clean and bright, albeit with some mild foxing and toning, especially to the early pages but also throughout. The blue boards have the title lettering on the front only, and also decorative bordering, and not on the spine, which may have been rubbed off, and the binding holds together nicely. There is knocking at the extremities and some wear to the corner tips. Frontispiece and end papers are missing, indicating the possibility that the book has been restored/repaired at some point. There are child's pencilled scribblings here and there through the book and quite a few of the illustrations have been coloured in (rather well actually.) An owner's name is inscribed at the top of a page, 104, mid way through the book of one "Rodger Hughes" (sic) There's toning to the page block edge. Despite all these flaws the book is quite a scarce first edition and decent enough condition on the whole, although perhaps not the best copy you'll see.

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Good. "Male and white privilege are on the decline, yet elite privilege has gone from strength to strength." Soft cover with lettering on the front cover and spine. Edges are lightly rubbed. Head and tail of spine bumped, corners are a little too. Discolouration on fore edge of page edges. Covers bear the odd spot, scuff and scratch. Binding is neat and tidy, else in good condition. *We always describe the faults of our books meticulously; they usually present better than they sound.
