'Frauentragödie' gedeutet. Betrachtet man die Situation der Frau, so wie sie in der mittelalterlichen Gesellschaft verankert war, begegnen einem zahlreiche sich überlappende Äußerungs- und Darstellungsmodi, die aber in der einen oder anderen Form auf dieselbe Grundidee zurückzuführen sind: Gemäß des mittelalterlichen Vorstellungshorizonts waren Geschlechterverhältnisse dermaßen ausgelegt, dass die Rolle der Frau nur durch jene des Mannes bestimmt wurde und dadurch eine deutliche Abwertung und Ausgrenzung bis hin zur Reduzierung auf den Objektstatus erfuhr. Sichtbar werden diese Verhältnisse auch anhand der mysogynen Perspektive des Dichters.Das Thema ist von besonderer Aktualität und nimmt in der Weltliteratur eine wichtige Stellung ein. Die eingeschränkte Rolle der Frau in der Gesellschaft und die Ursachen ihres wenn auch nur kurzzeitig abweichenden Verhaltens bis die Ordnung wieder hergestellt wird, ist das Phänomen, das in vorliegender Arbeit untersucht werden soll.In dieser Hinsicht gibt das Nibelungenlied Auskunft über damalige Vorgänge und Praktiken sowie über historische und kulturelle Wandlungsprozesse. Die Verknüpfung des Mythischen mit dem Historischen, des Wahren und des Märchenhaften, bedingen sowohl Charakterzüge der Gestalten wie auch ihre vielfältige Dimension. Das Epos vermittelt eine klare Darstellung der frühen Feudalgesellschaft - Lebensbedingungen, Beziehungen zwischen Feudalherren und Lehnsmännern, und selbstverständlich auch deren typische und deviante Männlichkeits- und Weiblichkeitsbilder. Der Schwerpunkt der vorliegenden Arbeit liegt in der Untersuchung der beiden devianten Weiblichkeitsbilder und in der Bestimmung der Relevanz ihrer Andersartigkeit für den tragischen Ausgang der Geschichte. 20 pp. Deutsch.

Mit Blick auf das Eindringen von Anglizismen in die Sprache der Presse soll dargelegt werden, dass die letztere keineswegs als eine Varietät zu betrachten ist, sondern eher als eine Widerspiegelung der gesellschaftlichen, wissenschaftlichen und sprachlichen Zustände der Zeit gilt.Die deutsche Sprache scheint heutzutage zunehmend von einem aus dem englischen und amerikanischen Sprachraum stammenden Sprachgut bedrängt zu sein. Diese Tatsache wird in der Sprache der Presse besonders deutlich, wie eine umfassende Kritik seit Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts bereits gezeigt hat.Dadurch, dass die Pressesprache eine hohe Gegenwartsbezogenheit aufweist, da sie 'alle Gebiete des täglichen Lebens' behandelt, kann sie als 'ein sicheres Anzeichen für sprachliche Veränderungen' betrachtet werden. Eine besondere Rolle dabei spielen Anglizismen und Amerikanismen, die bereits durch den Kolonialismus und Welthandel Großbritanniens im 17., 18. und 19. Jahrhundert und durch die Etablierung der USA als Weltmacht im 20. Jahrhundert ihren Weg in die deutsche Sprache gefunden haben. This practice developed as an attempt to oppose nineteenth century Realism, defying thus the essential concept of truth of representation. This opposition can be observed especially in the unreliability of the characters as regards their vision or perception of the world. The involvement of a mediating consciousness or mediating language of the fictional character becomes thus responsible for altering the veridicity of the narration and for creating the so called suspension of disbelief.The short story 'On Terms' written by Christine Brooke-Rose was published in the collection 'Go When You See the Green Man Walking' in 1970, and it is an experimentalist, ultra-modern piece of literature in structure, ideas and technique. Brooke-Rose has always managed to displace herself from any genre, any national tradition or literary context by using a highly innovative overlap of different fields of knowledge. This story features the discourse of astrophysics as an organizing metaphor of the surrounding world and of the character's identity.The uncertainty that is cast upon the ontological status of the character, the difficulty of drawing a line between what is real (within the fictional world, of course) and what belongs to the imaginary, remains the reader.s responsibility concerning the text and the disclosure of its true message.This paper will deal with the scientific discourse as an element fundamental to creating a semblance of truth, the language of astrophysics being the driving force that shapes the instability of the character's ontological status. Christine Brooke-Rose uses the paradoxes inherent in science to create a universe of instability which is strongly held together by the use of language. Not only the jargon of astrophysics but also various post-modernist narrative techniques serve here to stage a doubtful representation of truth and to illustrate the ambiguity of a character at a crossroads of life and death.

Drawn from Ware's statement that 'the metaphor of architecture runs through our brains' and that 'there's something about the way the mind and the way buildings are structured that are [sic] analogous' (Paulson), the present analysis illustrates this analogy by looking at both the personal and the spatial dimension of this architectural product.On the one hand, the reader is presented a skilful architecture of the mind and feelings of the main character, along with the multiple dimensions of the character's memory. In the respective architecture, the spatial dimension of the building plays a crucial role, since it represents a frame for the main plot: 'the history of a building and the things that have happened within it [.] like a living organism through time.' At the same time, the character is framed by the architecture of the building in that it represents a 'self-conscious creative construction on the part of the woman to write for her creative writing class'. (Millman)The paper will also look at how form is employed to convey content, both in terms of the organization of panels and frames, on the macro-level, and of visual/narrative perspective, monolog and dialog, on the micro-level. The way in which these elements are combined - starting with straightforward manners and ending up to mnemonically complex ones - demands that the reader interpret them, based on 'common experience and a history of observation'. (Eisner, 2006, 24) The paper's chapters are structured according to the steps followed when building a house: the design, laying the foundation, building the walls, installing the roof, and finally, painting the walls. These steps are not exclusively related to the building as such, but rather to the entire 'architecture' of the story'.

This practice developed as an attempt to oppose nineteenth century Realism, defying thus the essential concept of truth of representation. This opposition can be observed especially in the unreliability of the characters as regards their vision or perception of the world. The involvement of a mediating consciousness or mediating language of the fictional character becomes thus responsible for altering the veridicity of the narration and for creating the so called suspension of disbelief.The short story 'On Terms' written by Christine Brooke-Rose was published in the collection 'Go When You See the Green Man Walking' in 1970, and it is an experimentalist, ultra-modern piece of literature in structure, ideas and technique. Brooke-Rose has always managed to displace herself from any genre, any national tradition or literary context by using a highly innovative overlap of different fields of knowledge. This story features the discourse of astrophysics as an organizing metaphor of the surrounding world and of the character's identity.The uncertainty that is cast upon the ontological status of the character, the difficulty of drawing a line between what is real (within the fictional world, of course) and what belongs to the imaginary, remains the reader.s responsibility concerning the text and the disclosure of its true message.This paper will deal with the scientific discourse as an element fundamental to creating a semblance of truth, the language of astrophysics being the driving force that shapes the instability of the character's ontological status. Christine Brooke-Rose uses the paradoxes inherent in science to create a universe of instability which is strongly held together by the use of language. Not only the jargon of astrophysics but also various post-modernist narrative techniques serve here to stage a doubtful representation of truth and to illustrate the ambiguity of a character at a crossroads of life and death. 24 pp. Englisch.

Drawn from Ware's statement that 'the metaphor of architecture runs through our brains' and that 'there's something about the way the mind and the way buildings are structured that are [sic] analogous' (Paulson), the present analysis illustrates this analogy by looking at both the personal and the spatial dimension of this architectural product.On the one hand, the reader is presented a skilful architecture of the mind and feelings of the main character, along with the multiple dimensions of the character's memory. In the respective architecture, the spatial dimension of the building plays a crucial role, since it represents a frame for the main plot: 'the history of a building and the things that have happened within it [.] like a living organism through time.' At the same time, the character is framed by the architecture of the building in that it represents a 'self-conscious creative construction on the part of the woman to write for her creative writing class'. (Millman)The paper will also look at how form is employed to convey content, both in terms of the organization of panels and frames, on the macro-level, and of visual/narrative perspective, monolog and dialog, on the micro-level. The way in which these elements are combined - starting with straightforward manners and ending up to mnemonically complex ones - demands that the reader interpret them, based on 'common experience and a history of observation'. (Eisner, 2006, 24) The paper's chapters are structured according to the steps followed when building a house: the design, laying the foundation, building the walls, installing the roof, and finally, painting the walls. Betrachtet man die Situation der Frau, so wie sie in der mittelalterlichen Gesellschaft verankert war, begegnen einem zahlreiche sich überlappende Äußerungs- und Darstellungsmodi, die aber in der einen oder anderen Form auf dieselbe Grundidee zurückzuführen sind: Gemäß des mittelalterlichen Vorstellungshorizonts waren Geschlechterverhältnisse dermaßen ausgelegt, dass die Rolle der Frau nur durch jene des Mannes bestimmt wurde und dadurch eine deutliche Abwertung und Ausgrenzung bis hin zur Reduzierung auf den Objektstatus erfuhr. Sichtbar werden diese Verhältnisse auch anhand der mysogynen Perspektive des Dichters.Das Thema ist von besonderer Aktualität und nimmt in der Weltliteratur eine wichtige Stellung ein. Die eingeschränkte Rolle der Frau in der Gesellschaft und die Ursachen ihres wenn auch nur kurzzeitig abweichenden Verhaltens bis die Ordnung wieder hergestellt wird, ist das Phänomen, das in vorliegender Arbeit untersucht werden soll.In dieser Hinsicht gibt das Nibelungenlied Auskunft über damalige Vorgänge und Praktiken sowie über historische und kulturelle Wandlungsprozesse. Die Verknüpfung des Mythischen mit dem Historischen, des Wahren und des Märchenhaften, bedingen sowohl Charakterzüge der Gestalten wie auch ihre vielfältige Dimension. Das Epos vermittelt eine klare Darstellung der frühen Feudalgesellschaft - Lebensbedingungen, Beziehungen zwischen Feudalherren und Lehnsmännern, und selbstverständlich auch deren typische und deviante Männlichkeits- und Weiblichkeitsbilder.
