Prima mostra monografica dedicata a Maria Barosso (1879-1960) che, all'interno della Direzione Generale Antichità e Belle Arti del Ministero della Pubblica Istruzione, svolse un ruolo cruciale nella documentazione dei monumenti e degli scavi attraverso riproduzioni a colori. Durante la stagione delle grandi trasformazioni edilizie di cui fu protagonista la città di Roma nei primi decenni del XX secolo, l'"artista archeologa" Barosso ha collaborato, quale unica disegnatrice donna, alla documentazione ad acquerello delle demolizioni e di importanti cantieri della Soprintendenza di Roma e del Lazio, distinguendosi per una combinazione unica di accuratezza filologica e interpretazione artistica. Nella pubblicazione che presentiamo, gli acquerelli sono posti in dialogo con i lavori di altri artisti a lei contemporanei, con fotografie, documenti e manufatti storici. Di grande interesse il gruppo di fogli raffiguranti affreschi e mosaici collocati in varie chiese romane che, a più riprese, furono interessate da interventi di restauro.
