Leder argumentiert, dass es sich dabei um eine Revolution handelte, die die soziale Struktur der polnischen Gesellschaft grundlegend veränderte. Mit seinem geisteswissenschaftlichen und psychoanalytischen Instrumentarium zeigt er, warum sie bis in die Gegenwart nachwirkt. Leder verweist auf die Veränderung des Imaginariums dieser Umwälzungen als eines Geflechts von Mythen und Phantasmen, die das gesellschaftliche Bewusstsein bis heute bestimmen. Er erklärt die widersprüchliche Wahrnehmung einer aufgrund deutscher und sowjetischer Besatzung weder selbst bestimmten noch selbst organisierten, aber doch konkreten Beteiligung an diesen Prozessen: Alle Polen wurden unmittelbar mit der Gewalt der Besatzer konfrontiert und mussten sich dazu verhalten.
