The third edition of "La Conchyliologie, ou Histoire naturelle ", edited by J. & G. De Favanne de Montcervelle (1780) has a total of 64 illustrations depicting specimens identifiable as Stromboidea. In a recent reprint, delivered by Carpita et al. (2009) some of these were identified, but many remained unidentified by Willmann & Willmann in Carpita et al. Identifications of most of these specimens are provided, and for some their nomenclatural status is discussed. 10 pp., 1 plate, 4.

Distorsio perdistorta Fulton, 1938 is reported from Angola for the first time. Distorsio decipiens (Reeve, 1844) is reported from the Caribbean, but this record is most probably an artifact. As the Latin word urceus is a simple noun in apposition, the original spelling of the specific epithet derived directly from it must be retained (as urceus) in the future, regardless of the gender of the genus with which it is combined (International Code of Zoological Nomenclature 1999, Article 31.2.1). The name Strombus pavifrons was introduced in 1842, and since then the name appeared only twice in the literature. The introduction of the name S. pavifrons was accidental, and constitutes an incorrect subsequent spelling of Strombus pacificus Swainson, 1821, which in its turn is a subjective junior synonym of Lambis vomer Röding, 1798, currently known as Euprotomus vomer (Röding, 1798). The name S. pavifrons is unavailable. Some notes on specimens and localities mentioned in early literature are added. 8 pp., 1 plate, 4.

Nine specimens of Strombus sensu Linnaeus examined by Born have been rediscovered in the Natural History Museum in Vienna. Among these is the lectotype (designated herein) for Strombus fasciatis Born, 1778. The identity of the syntypes of Strombus succinctus Linnaeus, 1767 and the status and identity of S. accinctus are discussed. 16 pp., 15 figs, gr. 8.
