This book offers offers insightful and informative research about Simon de Colines, one of the greatest typographers and printers of the Renaissance.Simon de Colines was one of the greatest typographers, printers and publishers of the Renaissance. He has nevertheless been unfairly neglected. Apart from a pair of scholarly bibliographies, published a century apart, this is thefirst book-length study of his work.As Robert Bringhurst writes in his introduction to this volume, "Colines as much as anyone built the semiotic structure of the book as we now know it, with its chapter headings and subheads, page numbers and running heads, tables of contents, indices, and source notes. He also cut lucid and beautiful type at a crucial moment: when the Latin and Greek alphabets were still engaged in their historic metamorphosis from manuscript to metal." Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition, 2012. 288 pages. Book measures 6 x 9 inches. Thick French-fold wrappers. Simon de Colines was one of the greatest typographers, printers and publishers of the Renaissance. He has nevertheless been unfairly neglected. Apart from a pair of scholarly bibliographies, published a century apart, this is the first book-length study of his work. This collection of essays on Simon de Colines was written by Kay Amert over decades of study and research. Due to her untimely death, the book she envisioned never came to be. Fortunately this work was collected and edited by Robert Bringhurst and brought to life in this wonderful volume. Includes illustrations throughout. A very well designed book by Bringhurst as well. Wrappers show light wear to edges, including one small nick to bottom edge. Binding is square and tight. Very Good condition.

Añadir al carritoOther Binding. Condición: New. 1st edition. New digital facsimile (in electronic PDF format on CD-ROM disc) of the 1529 first edition of this classic of esotericism and design, as well as the celebrated 1927 English translation designed by Bruce Rogers and published by the Grolier Club. Geofroy Tory's Champ fleury belongs to that select class of works that continue to enlighten nearly five centuries after publication. Ostensibly a formal treatise on letters and letterforms, Tory's beautifully illustrated book contains, like the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili, tantalizing hints of a larger and more comprehensive meaning and purpose to its enigmatic text and illustrations. This Octavo Edition contains detailed digital images of magnificent copies of the two editions from the Library of Congress (may be magnified at up to 200% of original size) as well as a new introduction by typography expert Kay Amert and detailed bibliographical information. Not Signed.
