Darüber hinaus gibt "Geheimbünde in Irland 1760-1870" einen Einblick in die Rituale und Strukturen dieser Gesellschaften und Gruppierungen und widmet ein Kapitel speziell dem Faction Fighting. Diese kuriose Mischung aus Sport und Gewalt war bis ins 19. Jahrhundert Bestandteil der Jahrmärkte in den ländlichen Gebieten Irlands und spielte auch bei späteren Geheimbünden eine tragende soziale Funktion.
