In einer globalisierten Welt können sie sich rascher und ungehinderter bewegen als Personen. Als der Künstler Armin Linke vor über sieben Jahren zu einer fotografischen Arbeit auf die Insel Lampedusa eingeladen wurde, ließ er seine Kamera zu Hause, weil er fand, dass es ohnehin schon genügend Fotos von dort gebe. Stattdessen nahm er ein Team der Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe mit, um mit Bildproduzenten vor Ort über ihre Fotografien zu sprechen. Vier Jahre später trat er an Spector Books heran, um aus dem gesammelten Bild- und Interviewmaterial ein Buch zu gestalten. Der Verlag studierte die Bilder und schlug vor, die Form einer Foto-Graphic-Novel zu wählen: Zeichnungen kommentieren Fotografien, so entsteht eine Außenperspektive auf die Bilder. Die dreijährige Recherche der Migrant Image Research Group wurde im Fonds TURN von der Kulturstiftung des Bundes gefördert.
