Paperback. Condición: Good. "The mosque case of 1972 is the most famous case amongst the rank and file of the NYPD and Circle of Six holds no punches." --Joe "Donnie Brasco" Pistone, former FBI special agent Circle of Six is the true story of what is perhaps the most notorious case in the history of the New York Police Department. It details Randy Jurgensen's determined effort to bring to justice the murderer of patrolman Phillip Cardillo, who was shot and killed inside Harlem's Mosque No. 7 in 1972, in the midst of an all-out assault on the NYPD from the Black Liberation Army. The New York of this era was a place not unlike the Wild West, in which cops and criminals had shoot outs on a daily basis. Despite the mayhem on the streets and the Machiavellian corridors of Mayor Lindsay's City Hall, Detective Jurgensen single-handedly took on the Black Liberation Army, the Nation of Islam, NYPD brass, and City Hall, capturing Cardillo's killer, Lewis 17X Dupree. He broke the case with an unlikely accomplice, Foster 2X Thomas, a member of the Nation of Islam who became Jurgensen's witness. The relationship they formed during the time before trial gave each of the two men a greater perspective of the two sides in the street war and changed them forever. In the end, Dupree was acquitted of the murder but served a number of years for other charges. The murder case is still officially unsolved. In 2006, the NYPD reopened the case, and it is once again an active investigation with full media attention. The book has received acclaim from former New York City Police commissioners Ray Kelly and William Bratton.…

Signed and inscribed by the co-author, Randy Jurgensen, with blue pen at the upper section of the blank first free front endpaper. "Randy Jurgensen's and Robert Cea's gripping account of 1970s New York makes today's city streets seem quaint by comparison." -- Raymond W. Kelly, Police Commissioner of the City of New York. "Circle of Six takes us back to a time of despair in New York City that we would all like to forget, but cannot, because we have to understand the mistakes of that time so we don't repeat them again." -- William J. Bratton, LAPD Chief and Former NYPD Commissioner. "Jurgensen is the genuine article. He stands among some of the best detectives in the NYPD. The Mosque case of 1972 is the most famous case amongst the rank and file of the NYPD and Circle of Six holds no punches." -- Joe "Donnie Brasco" Pistone, Former FBI Special Agent. "This is the most realistic book since The French Connection. This book makes me wish I was still producing movies. The Moby Dick of police stories . makes me proud to live in New York and have brave and resolute men from NYPD 'on the job.' " - Phil D'Antoni, Academy Award Winning Producer, The French Connection. "This fantastic book puts you right there in the teeming, riotous Harlem streets, amidst the chaos, anger, fear, betrayal, violence and death. Every cop should read this. Every American shoudl read it. You won't believe what they did." -- Ed Dee, Retired NYPD Lieutenant and author. "In 1972, New York City was plagued with protests, riots, and general unrest. It was during this defining year that one of the Police Department's most scandalous cases occurred: the murder of Police Officer Phillip Cardillo. On Friday, APril 14, 1972, the police were summoned to Mosque Number 7 in Harlem, led at the time by the Nation of Islam's Minister Louis Farrakhan, for a ten-thirteen: officer in need of help. The turn of events after this officer distress call has become perhaps the most legendary story in NYPD history. Police entered the Mosque and a conflict occurred, resulting in Officer Cardillo's death, and the city on the brink of a full-scale riot. Sensing a potential crisis and conflict with the Nation of Islam and the Black Liberation Army, New York City Mayor John Lindsay, Commissioner Benjamin Ward, and Congressman Charles Rangel acquiesced to the Mosque's leaders and ordered the police out of Mosque Number 7. Subsequently, the details of Officer Cardillo's murder and the events of what happened at the Mosque were covered up and an investigation was never truly launched until NYPD detective Randy Jurgensen began his own investigation. For four years, he would not rest, taking on the Mayor, his superiors in the NYPD, the Nation of Islam, and seemingly at times, the entire city of New York, before he could effect an arrest. His investigation revealed the tragic and shameful story of the political scandal and cover-up that rocked the NYPD and the Nation of Islam." -- from the inner front jacket flap. ABOUT THE AUTHOR, RANDY JURGENSEN: A decorated veteran of the Korean War, Randy Jurgensen joined the New York Police Department at 20 years of age. Among other highlights of his career, he arrested Lenny Bruce and broke what became known as the Bag Murders, later to become a movie called Cruising. He has earned over 40 citations, medals, and numerous plaques. He has appeared in over thirty films and television shows, and has produced several movies. Although he has been the subject of hundreds of publications, this is his first book. Signed by Author(s). …
