The back I BOMB NY logo is by the Bernadette Corporation. Looking back though, it is interesting how certain mainstream politicians have taken all our avant-garde strategies, DADA, Punk, Fiction, Surrealism, Performance, Wigs, even FAKE NEWS (homage: Yves Klein), squeezed the dear soul out of them, and weaponized them for their delinquent purposes. If that is really the case of our times, then what is the role of an artist today? Discuss." -- Artist's statement Very Good / Fine. Light yellowing of covers, light bumping of bottom edge and slight curl to spine. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Due to large size of this publication additional shipping charges will be required for international orders.

Añadir al carritoHonolulu, T.H.: Johnny Noble (1930). [4]pp. Sheet Music. 12 x 9 inches. Bifolium. Half tone cover illustration from a photograph. Lyrics in English. Music is for both piano and ukulele. Near Fine. Sheet music for Ruth Florence's I'll Come Sailing Home to You with music for piano and ukulele by King Kalakaua and Johnny Noble, bot…h honorees of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame. On the final page of the sheet music are two additional songs with lyrics in Hawaiian: Lei Ohi, a Hawaiian hula, and Heeia, an ancient Hawaiian hula. Published in Honolulu, Territory of Hawaii by Noble's own company, the cover of the sheet music shows him with his Moana Hotel Orchestra. Born in Honolulu and trained as a musician, composer, and arranger, Noble (18921944) developed the hapa haole style of Hawaiian music and was instrumental in popularizing Hawaiian music in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s. The musical composition is co-credited to Noble and to Hawaii's King Kalakaua (David Kalakaua, 18361891). During King Kalakaua's reign, from 18741891, Hawaiian culture was actively promoted, especially music and, in particular, the use of the ukulele. It seems possible that Noble may have based the music here on an earlier composition by King Kalakaua or attributed to him. King Kalakaua was himself a proficient ukulele player, often playing for guests accompanied by his personal musical group, Kalakaua's Singing Boys. Note: The sheet music is accompanied by a modern greeting card reproducing an old photograph of King Kalakaua and his friend, author Robert Louis Stevenson.

Añadir al carritoNo binding. Condición: Fine. Limited Edition. One of 75 copies, miniature book in scroll format. This lovely miniature book, by the incomparable book artists Peter and Donna Thomas, presents a single linoleum cut by Donna in a scroll format; it would become the Book Society Distinguished Award, 1999. Peter and Donna Thomas start…ed their press in 1976; in 1988 they changed the name of their press from the "Good Book Press" to their names. They are "one of very few presses where the proprietors write the text, create the art for the illustrations, make the paper, handset the type, print on a letterpress, and bind the book" (n.b., Bradbury p. 302). The "four views" in the title consist of one pictorial - Donna's linocut - and three literary. The first being partial lyrics of the Johnny Noble song "I want to go back to my little grass shack in Kealakekua, Hawaii"; the second a description of "Karakakooa Bay" (as it was then called) by Captain James Cook in 1779, and the third being the description of the bay by Mark Twain when he saw it in 1866. Scarce in the marketplace, as of this writing we see no copies online, our search of OCLC locates twenty-two of the seventy-five copies with institutions. ___DESCRIPTION: Scroll, case-bound in patterned paper (handmade by Peter) over boards, with one linoleum cut by Donna, a single illustration on a label on the cover, the scroll wound onto a dowel set in a handmade koa rack, with the other end of the scroll attached to a brass rod that acts as a handle for unwinding the scroll; handmade paper, printing both letterpress and polymer plate, the handset types being Canterbury and Centaur, 2.875 " by 1.75", a single scroll measuring 22 ", this no. 46 of 75 copies. ___CONDITION: Fine; the case clean and without wear, the scrolling action operable, the scroll itself clean and without wear; as new. ___CITATION: Peter and Donna Thomas Bibliography no. A92. ___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details. ___Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
