More than 300 illustrations and photographs accompany the story of pivotal events and the details of student life from the first classes held on the Georgia frontier in 1801 through the impact of the Civil War and Reconstruction, the admission of women in 1918, and the construction of a new east campus. This new edition features an in-depth chronicle of the University of Georgia's rapid growth during the past decade and describes the effects of the expansion of the student body and faculty, the burgeoning athletic program and its new emphasis on women's sports, and the administrations of Charles Knapp and Michael Adams. From landmark changes to little-known events and curious facts, A Pictorial History of the University of Georgia presents a complete portrait of the school that blends educational innovation and cultural diversity with long-standing traditions. They were just what she needed for her own garden, and she asked her host what they were. "Those are Nellie Stevens hollies," was the reply. She looked again and couldn't help but wonder about the name. Who in the world is Nellie Stevens, and how did her name ever become associated with this plant? She noted other intriguing names, and she asked similar questions. She saw a beautifulblue clematis and wondered if Betty Corning was still alive and what stories she had to tell. She wondered about the places and people whose names are associated with so many popular garden plants. She is not alone. If necessity is the mother of invention, curiosity is the mother of research. In many cases, we wonder not what our gardens grow, but who our gardens grow. Until now, these accounts have not been compiled and unfortunately, many of the people are disappearing, their stories with them. Now gardeners can enjoy the beauty of their plants and delight in the tales they tell." ; Contents: Anna, Illinois -- Arnold Arboretum -- Janes Bath -- Lole Benedict -- ray Bracken -- Luther Burbank -- Molly Bush -- Cedar lane Farm -- John Champneys, Phillippe Noisette -- Corbett, maryland -- Betty Corning -- John Creech -- Roy Davidson -- Vince and Barbara Dooley -- Eco-Gardens -- Katie Ferguson -- Henry and Sally Fuller -- Fred Galle -- Gardenview Horticultural park -- Azilda Gerbing -- Goodness Grows -- Kim Hawks -- mary Gibson Henry -- Poly Hill -- Andre Iseli -- Tina James -- Joseph Kassab -- Hella Lacy -- Michael Lindsey -- Carol Mackie -- Frank N Meyer -- Montrose Nursery -- David Mooberry -- Mt. This compact, detailed volume, has 13 distinguished contributors who show how CBT's primary focus of identifying and changing maladaptive patterns of information processing and related behaviors is fully compatible with biological theories and treatments and can be combined with pharmacotherapy to optimize treatment results in clinical practice. In five chapters that illustrate the broadening reach and scope of CBT, these experts discuss Schizophrenia - Shows clinicians how to incorporate the strengths of CBT into their daily practices for treating patients with schizophrenia. CBT methods (e.g., thought recording, examining the evidence, activity scheduling, graded task assignments, psychoeducation) can help relieve both positive and negative symptoms, reduce the stigma associated with the illness, improve depression and anxiety, and increase social skills. Bipolar / disorder - Focuses on a concerted effort to educate the patient about bipolar disorder, which helps patients and families develop an "early warning" system and be prepared with interventions to forestall relapse.CBT methods also teach patients how to reduce common psychosocial stressors and adhere to their prescribed medications. Computer-assisted CBT - Discusses an exciting new frontier that has already found excellent levels of patient acceptance and can reduce the amount of clinician time required for successful treatment. Using virtual reality and other technologies, computer-assisted CBT enhances therapy by providing interactive methods of learning and rehearsing CBT skills and by illustrating problem-solving methods with multimedia scenarios. CBT for treating physical illnesses - Details the positive benefits for CBT in many different types of medical disorders, such as coronary artery disease, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. CBT can help change negative automatic thoughts ("What's the use?"), reduce anxiety and depression, and ultimately help the patient develop adaptive beliefs, identify and mobilize inherent strengths, and maximize healthy behavioral strategies. CBT for children and adolescents - Reviews the robust effects for CBT in children and adolescents with anxiety disorders and depression and demonstrates how these methods can be used in clinical practice.Findings from numerous studies demonstrate that CBT is effective in individual, group, and family formats and can also be used to reduce vulnerability to depression in adolescents who are at risk. This volume enriches our understanding of the strengths of CBT and provides new opportunities for helping patients, it will be welcomed by clinicians and students alike. In this compact, richly detailed volume, contributors show how CBT's primary focus of identifying and changing maladaptive patterns of information processing and related behaviours is fully compatible with biological theories and treatments and can be combined with pharmacotherapy to optimise treatment results in clinical practice. Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Very Good. No Jacket. 208, xx, [1] ; illustrated, 4 in color ; 21 cm. ; John Horace McFarland (1859-1948) was an American master printer and horticulturist. Throughout his career, he advocated for civic beautification, and he became a leader in the conservation movement of the early twentieth century. His wide-ranging achievements made a lasting impact on printing processes, horticulture, and environmental protection. During McFarland's early years, his father operated a nursery and a small weekly newspaper in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. McFarland worked in both of his father's businesses as a youth. These early experiences instilled the passion for horticultural beauty and the business expertise that distinguished him personally and professionally. He eventually purchased his father's press. Combining the skills learned from these early experiences, he established a successful printing company of his own. He founded the J. Horace McFarland Company/Mount Pleasant Press, specializing in seed catalogs and nursery trade publications. Over the course of his lifetime, McFarland wrote and lectured extensively on horticulture, printing methods, and civic improvement. McFarland was a prominent member of the American Rose Society.
