Lewes is regarded as a minor poet of this period. However, his family members are well-known. Lewes' father played many minor roles in the Covent Garden theatre before finding his first important role as Young Marlow in 'She Stoops to Conquer'. During his time at Drury Lane, Lewes played many Shakespearean parts. Upon his death, John Lee Lewes published his memoirs. George Henry Lewes was John's illegitimate son. George was an English philosopher and theatre critic known for his relationship with Mary Ann Evans. With a frontispiece.
