Ross and then follows with the response from Nancy Mitford and then responses to that response by…such luminaries as Evelyn Waugh, Peter Fleming (writing under the pen-name "Strix"), Christopher Sykes, and John Betjeman. Cover and interior illustrations by Osbert Lancaster. Copy is in good+ condition. Minimal wear to the blue cloth boards. Interior is clean and unmarked. Slight cracking to the front end papers but the binding is solid and tight. Dust jacket is good with some wear, tears, and chips around the edges. Now wrapped in protective Brodart jacket cover. Lancaster, Osbert (ilustrador).

According to Wikipedia, works bound by Hayday became famous, and his name attached to a book raised its value twenty-five per cent. William Pickering, whose anchor and dolphin device appears on the titles, introduced him to many wealthy patrons. Despite this, Hayday was unable to compete with cheaper binders and was bankrupt in 1861. Note bookplates for Field Marshall Charles Moore, 1st Marquess of Drogheda, and blind stamp of Prof. Ernest Sirluck (1918-2013) who taught in the University of Toronto's English department.

The Aldine Poet Series was a 20 year project that involved printing new editions of classic British poets from Chaucer through to the 19th Century. They were published in 53 volumes during the years 1830-1844. Pickering secured John Mitford and Alexander Dyce as editors with Sir Harris Nicolas, so that the series would be of a high standard.
