Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'Notes on the Genus Aphanomyces With a Description of a New Semipara Sitic Species' is a rigorous mycological study that delves into the classification and biological traits of the 'Aphanomyces' genus. Authored by J. N. Couch, this scientific work provides a detailed examination of these oo…mycetes, which are often significant in the context of plant pathology and aquatic biology. The text meticulously documents the morphological characteristics and lifecycle of the genus, offering critical insights into its diversity. A primary focus of the work is the formal introduction and description of a new semiparasitic species, a discovery that advanced the taxonomic knowledge of the period. Through precise observations and scientific analysis, Couch explores the relationship between these organisms and their environments. The volume serves as an important historical record for researchers in botany and mycology, particularly those interested in the evolution of species identification and parasitic behaviors in fungi-like organisms. As a contribution to the biological sciences, 'Notes on the Genus Aphanomyces With a Description of a New Semipara Sitic Species' remains a valuable reference for understanding the complexities of the natural world and the history of mycological research. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'Heterothallism in Dictyuchus, a Genus of the Water Moulds' is a seminal scientific study by J. N. Couch that delves into the reproductive complexities of aquatic fungi. This work focuses specifically on the genus Dictyuchus, exploring the phenomenon of heterothallism-a biological condition… where sexual reproduction requires the interaction of two distinct mating types. Couch provides a detailed examination of the morphological and physiological characteristics of these water moulds, contributing significantly to the field of mycology. The text documents rigorous experimental observations, illustrating how these organisms interact and propagate within their aquatic environments. By investigating the life cycles and reproductive habits of Dictyuchus, the author sheds light on broader biological principles governing fungal genetics and evolution. This treatise serves as an essential resource for botanists, mycologists, and students of biological sciences interested in the history of fungal research and the intricate mechanisms of microbial life. 'Heterothallism in Dictyuchus, a Genus of the Water Moulds' remains a foundational text for understanding the diversity and reproductive strategies of the Saprolegniaceae family. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Añadir al carrito(London, Richard Taylor and William Francis, 1853) 4to. No wrappers as extracted from "Philosophical Transactions" 1853, Vol. 143. Pp. 397-406. First appearance of this importent paper by Adams, - famous for his co-discovery with Le Verrier, of Neptune in 1846 - in which he introduces new mathematical methods in dealing with the… pertubations of the Moon, raising a sharp scientific controversy, and correcting Laplace's great memoir of 1788."He (Adams) was elected a fellow of Pembroke College in 1853, and shortly afterward he presented to the Royal Society a remarkable paper on the secular acceleration of the moon?s mean motion. This quantity was thought to have been definitively investigated by Pierre Simon de Laplace in 1788, but Adams showed that Laplace?s solution was incorrect. In particular, Laplace had ignored a variation in solar eccentricity that introduces into the differential equations for the moon?s motion a series of additional terms. Adams calculated the second term of the series, on which the secular acceleration depends, as 3771/64m4 the value computed from Laplace?s work was 2187/128 m4. The effect of the correction was to reduce the figure for the moon?s secular acceleration by about half, from 10.58 to 5.70.This paper caused a sharp scientific controversy, marked by angry chauvinism on the part of several French astronomers. Their attacks stimulated a number of independent investigations of the subject, all of which confirmed Adams? result. The matter was definitely settled in his favor by 1861, but not without hard feelings."(DSB).
