XVI pp + 255 pages, complete with "Imprimatur" dated October 16th 1663 Roger L'Estrang. this faces the title page, lacking the final blank leaf as in the BL copy, fully collated as complete textually. Title page grubby as is the facing "Imprimatur" leaf, this has also been professionally repaired to lower corner at the fore edge, pages 2-6 have a brown stain horizontally marking the pages like a comet trail, top one inch in across the text, not severe. Pages have some handling and age toning and a little handled look, but paper still sound and nothing flaking or delicate to handle, good margins all round. Later 19th century full black crushed morocco simple titles on the spine, small area surface loss on the back edge of the spine and top edge of back cover. Good to very good. Octavo. 1664. Bibliographical Notes: The only fictional work by this author who only published 2/3 other works in his life and the ONLY edition ever printed. Two copies ONLY located at the British Library and at Harvard. IT IS considered the first "Historical novel published" and is a fictionalised account of the life of Cyrus the Persian King in 529BC "Accommodating to history battles and imaginary incidents". Author Biog Notes: John Bulteel is described (in the brief biographical details gleaned) as a "translator and miscellaneous writer", son of a French Protestant Minister living in Dover and probably died in 1669 and buried in St Martin-in-the-Fields.
