Part I: Communities: Analyzes interfaces that serve to structure an entire faith community and its collective response to conflict. Part II: Margins: Examines instances where the relationship between religion and war/peace occupied a more marginal or dissenting space within a faith group. Part III: Outward: Situates these interactions away from American soil, often focusing on how foreign wars shaped the spirituality of returning soldiers. The contributors go beyond traditional history to include a variety of cultural and artistic "multifaceted responses" to war. Some essays refer to fine art pieces such as murals, paintings, and statues. The volume discusses interfaces performed on stage, in film, heard on the radio, or read in public journals and newspapers.
