L'ouvrage constitue une violente attaque contre les excès et l'implication politique de la Compagnie de Jésus à cette époque. Il a été réédité à plusieurs reprises notamment en 1721 1753 et 1824. Eine vierte Auflage mit italienischer Übersetzung ist 2014 (Ghezzano, Felici Editori) erschienen (ed. Federica Gara). Die Herausgeberin der zweisprachigen Ausgabe verzeichnet nur drei Ausgaben (S. 159). Zum Autor siehe Dizionario biografico degli italiani, 48 (1997), 495-499.
