6 x 8 in., 120 pp., smyth-sewn in wrappers. A Purchase in the White Botanica offers the first collected poetry of Piero Heliczer. It includes poems from his college days at Harvard as well as his published books among which are & I Dreamt I Shot Arrows in My Amazon Bra (1959) and The First Battle of the Marne (1962), both of which were printed and published by his own press, the dead language, and The Soap Opera (Trigram, 1967). Heliczer was featured 20 years ago in Dennis Cooper's Little Caesar, no. 9,a 200 page festschrift compiled by Gerard Malanga, long out-of-print. Heliczer's lyrical works incorporate classical notions of poetry combined with radical breaks in structure. The pieces explore the page itself, recreating spelling and placement of words to create "sheer visual clarity" in meaning and form. Heliczer blends abstract or "atmospheric" images to create an almost religious notion of poetry and life (Heliczer chose not to separate the two). The works move easily from throughout Europe, England and the United States, mirroring Heliczer's own roaming nature. A Purchase in the White Botanica is supplemented with an extensive illustrated biographical interview with Heliczer's half-sister Marisabina Russo-Stark, conducted by Gerard Malanga, and a foreword by Anselm Hollo. Cover design by Naomi Yang; cover photograph by Gerard Malanga, 1970; text design by Neko Buildings. As new.…

First edition. One of an edition of 250 copies. 12mo, 24 pages, printed in two colors, and bound in sewn wraps illustrated by Natalia Simal. Book design by Martien Frijns. New from the publisher. 'When I first came to Amsterdam, it was beautiful but dead. All these beautiful people, with nothing to do.' New from our friends at Artistiek Bureau comes this gorgeously designed, first publication of a lost text by Piero Heliczer, discovered in the correspondence of the Dutch poet Harry Hoogstraten. The text was writtin in the summer of 1977, when Heliczer was forced to leave his houseboat and Amsterdam and return to Paris. In this uncertain time this short, beautiful text was born, both a a farewell to Amsterdam and a brave greeting to the unknown, with passing reference to Hugo Bart Huges, Ted Joans, Allen Ginsberg, Provo, and the Kabouters. Recommended.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Rarities and ephemera from the life and work of Piero Heliczer--poet, filmmaker, publisher, the Apollinaire of the international '60s avant-gardePiero Heliczer (1937-93) was one of the most important and ubiquitous protagonists of the underground of the 1960s and '70s. Born in Italy, Heliczer lived between London, Paris, New York and Amsterdam; a poet, publisher and filmmaker, he took an active part in Andy Warhol's Factory, filmed the Velvet Underground, and helped Jack Smith on the production of Flaming Creatures. The founder of the Dead Language Press in Paris in the late 1950s, he published Beat poets such as Gregory Corso, as well as the works of Angus MacLise, and was a close friend and collaborator to Tom Raworth, Anselm Hollo and Gerard Malanga. However, Heliczer's work eludes easy classification and stable forms. He preferred the circulation and dissemination of his poetry in broadsheets, little magazines such as Outburst, Locus Solus and The World, and at public readings, in accord with his nomadic, nonconformist life. Piero Heliczer: Poems & Documents retraces his oeuvre, revealing its vital energy and experimental drive through the poems Heliczer published in magazines and periodicals between 1959 and 1979. The poems are presented as facsimile pages from the original magazines, accompanied by reproductions of documents and ephemera, to further highlight the singular printed culture of an era, and the fervent community it nourished.…
