Saggio di argomento chimico-tessile nella forma di lettera inviata al Professore A. Alessandrini sul tipo di stoffa che avvolgeva le mummie egizie. Scrive l'Autore: "Le esposte consideraz…ioni ed indagini applicate poi ai comuni nostri tessuti vestiarj ne guidano ad alcune norme abili ed utili a riconoscere le tele, i panni, le stoffe, ammiserate per la contessitura del cotone.Il lino si contraddistingue d'un tratto dal cotone col mezzo chimico dell'acido solforico, e merce' la osservazione microscopica. Sebbene analoga sia la composizione legnosa del lino e del cotone, tuttavolta il primo meno sullecitamente del secondo resta disciolto dall'acido solforico concentrato, e percio' la loro contessitura si riconosce osservandone i varj stami diversamente attaccati dal predetto acido, ossia quelli di lino piu' tardamente, quelli di cotone piu' rapidamente disciolti in una particolare sostanza e gommosa. Simili tessuti offrono inoltre al microscopio le due diverse forme di stami l'una cilindrica tubulosa propria del lino, l'altra laminare attortigliata propria del cotone.". ITA.
